LARGE CROWD ATTENDS MUSIC FESTIVAL

—MUSIC TEACHERS DESERVE MUCH CREDIT The eighth annual Jasper County Music Festival was held Thursday, December 12, in the DeMotte High School gymnasium. The Jasper Co. music teachers were in charge. A large crowd attended the festival. First on the program the grade chorus sang four numbers. They were “Deck the Hall” and “Lullaby’’ with Mr. Roush directing and “Carol of the Shepherds” and Luther Cradle Hymn” with Mrs. Curtis directing. Then, under the direction of Miss Keever, the entire audience sang “Joy to the World” and “O, Little Town of Bethlehem”. The High School choruses sang seven numbers. While marching in and holding their candles, they sang “Adeste Fideles”. Miss Fairchild directed “Silent Night” and “Viking Song”. Miss Tinkham directed the “Morris Dance” and “I Dream of Jear.ie”. The “Cantique de Noel” was directed by Mr. Roush and the “Hallelujah Chorus” by Mr. Shearer, The all-county band played “Roamer” and "“Balaton Overture” with Miss Keever directing. Mr. Shearer directed “El Capitan”, Festival”, and “God Bless America”. While they were playing the “Star Spangled Banner” the audience stood and joined in the singing.

R. Sipkema escaped what could have been a very serious accident when his car skidded on the icy pavement Tuesday morning. The car was damaged some, but Mr. Sipkema was unhurt. Mrs. C. P. Curtin is responding nicely to treatments she is receiving at St. Margaret’s hospital in Hammond. Helen, her daughter who has been staying there, was home Saturday evening and Sunday. Four members of the editorial staff of the “Wheatfield Echo”, high school publication printed in this office, called here last Thursday afternoon.
