DeMotte Team Defeat Mt. Ayr

The DeMotte Indians journeyed to Mt. Ayr Friday night and returned with a two-point victory. Kenny Zeck starred for the local team, getting three buckets and seven free-throws for a 13-point scoring spree. Lynch was the main gun for the Ayrdales, tallying 10 points. The game was rough, a total of twenty-nine fouls being called on both squads. Mt. Ayr had 17 fouls and the local boys 12. The Ruch-coached Indians were on the Aort end of a 17-12 score at half time, but garnered 10 points in the third period to lead 22 to 19. In the final quarter, Mt. Ayr outscored the locals, 5 to 4, but were stopped two points short of a tie. Jack Evans, stellar guard, was ill and unable to make the trip, but will probably be in shape for the K.V.T., which open s tonight, Thursday, in Fair Oaks.

DeMotte’s first opponent in the annual tourney will b£ w Mt. Ayr. If last weeks game proves anything, the game should be won by the local team. If victorious,their opponent in the semi-finals will be the winner of the Center of Knov - Lacrosse tilt. Presupposing they are able to get by the semi-final, their opponent will probably be Wheatfield in the championship game. Wheatfield so far has won seven straight with no defeats. And one of these seven straght wins was a 28-25 victory oyer the Indians. Line-ups at Mt. Ayr last week were for DeMotte; Schoonvelt, Bernard, F. Zeck, K. Zeck, Boezeman and Recker: for Mt. Ayr; David, Brown, Miller, Lynch, Elijah, Boswinkle, and Pritchett. The DeMotte second string dropped their game Friday by a 21-15 score. Bahler did the scoring for the locals, counting 8 points while Kennedy rang the bell for 15 points for the Mt. Ayrians. Anderson Bahler, Belstra, Evans, Hoffman and Hook saw action for Coach Ruch’s second stringers.
