Adam Smith, Jasper county champion corn husker, is not making any alibi’s for his showing at the state finals, for he says there are a lot of tricks to be learned, even about the corn husking business. The field of corn at the state finals was very wet and Adam changed his style of husking to what he hoped would prove an advantage; the husks were sticking to the ears and Adam decided that he would gain in making sure that his load was clean, since the husks are weighed and counted against the husker. However, this cut Mown his speed so much that he lost more than he ained. Next year, with experience gained this year, Adam is confident he can do much better.
