COUNTY CORN HUSKING CONTEST

AT CHARLES LAKIN FARM , ON OCTOBER 18th. The Jasper county Corn Husking contest will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18, on the Charles D. Lakin farm, 6 miles north and 2*4 miles west of Rensselaer. The field in which the contest will be held was planted to Hybrid corn Nos. 608 DeKalb and Indiana 425, produced by Ernest Lamson. The corn is standing good at this time, with an average of 2% stalks per hill, all with good size ears. It is estimated that the field will average 80 bu. per acre. Ten huskers will compete in the 1939 contest. The huskers chosen at the drawing Saturday night are: Arnold Kanne, Paul Swing, Marvin Stutzman, Robert Hamstra, Raymond Parker, Adam Smith, Vernon Williams, Robert Jordan, Elvin Jordan, and Elbert - Griffin. Geo. Shuster is first alternate and Harold Watkins is second alternate. Vilas Jacks, w’ho is the 1938 state champion, will husk in the county contest for practice only.
