According to the budgets, as asked for by the various taxing units, the tax rate in Keener township for 1940 will be $1.73. This will be made up as follows: Township rate 94 County rate (approx.) 36 Gravel road 13 Poor Relief, Twp. . ..' .15 State rate 15 Total $1.73 The above rates are not final, and any or all may be changed. According to the proposed county levy it will require a tax rate of 18 cents to raise money to run the Jascounty Welfare department, and a like rate of 18e to raise funds’for the general fund. The Keener township poor relief rate remains the same as last year, 15c. The estimated poor relief fund for Keener township for next year is $4,500.00. The sum of $3,456.02 must be raised next year in Keener township to pay off principal and interest due on Keener township gravel road bonds. The net taxable property of Jasper county is set at $20,332,940.00, with a total of 2503 polls. The tax rate of Union town-hip is now set at $2.20. Union township poor relief funds for '4O are estimated at $5,250.00. The sum of $4,796.35 must be raised for gravel road bonds. Walker township tax rate will likely be $2.18. The amount due to be collected for poor relief is $2,625.00, and the amount due to be paid on gravel road bonds is $1,434.47. A tax rate of $2.43 appears likely for taxpayers of Kankakee township.
