WHEATFIELD
(By Bert Vandercar)
Theodore The is and Mr. Solomon were business callers at Shelby, on Monday afternoon. The Wheatfield Farm Bureau held a meeting in the vocational agriculture room, in the school house, Saturday. Frank Beebe is on the sick list. Old man Ground Hog, that old mythical fellow, has decreed that we are to have six weeks more of inclement weather. We believe that the old fellow is partially wrong in his hasty calculations. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Jensen, Clifford Kerns and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Myers were callers at Rensselaer on Saturday. The Jasper County Board of Education met at the county superintendent office in Rensselaer Saturday at 10 o’clock. A large number of questions were taken up and discussed. Mrs. J. M. Dunn was a guest of Mrs. C. Henry, at Repsselaer last Thursday and Friday. Mrs. C. M. Holladay has been checked in as Post Master at Kersey, Ind., succeeding Milliard Overfield. The Wheatfield Economics Club met at the home of Lulu Barcus last Friday afternoon. After a business session refreshments were served. This club is an educational, as well as a business and social society, and it is 5 devoted to the mutual benefit of all. At the business session, Mrs. Elsie Vandercar was appointed publicity. editor. Mrs. T. C. Sayers is the President, and Mrs. Lulu Barcus is secretary-treasurer. If you wish to become a member you can consult the president or the secretary. The club meets once a month. The Wheatfield teachers and Co. Supt. and Mrs. Ira Huntington and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Vandercar were entertained by Miss Minnie Tinkham last Thursday evening. It was carried out as a real picnic trip—baskets being packed for each table, which was taken out in real outdoors sash-
ion and put on the table, depending, of course, upon our imaginations for the dust and other outdoor denizens After the lunch, different games were played, at which fifty prizes were awarded to the winners. All present had a lovely time. The basket ball boys used their new bus for the first time in their trip to Kouts Saturday evening With a new tus to take tnc-m on their trips, we expect the basket ball teams to do their best. Remember, that you represent the Wheatfield School and that the school demands that you do your best. Miss Margaret Blue departed for California last Thursday for an indefinite stay, in the so-called realm of the perfect climate. She wanted to see if John’s glowing account of the beauties of the Golden Gate state was real or saturated with a little mystical hue of a lively imagination Those WPA boys who were dis-
missed from the Winamac Park project a short time ago and other.;, have been ordered to report to Rensselaer Tuesday morning for work. The township trustees, Acting as assessors, will hold a meeting at the county assessor’s office Feb. 16th.
