Mrs. Mary Bunning and son Henry will spend this week-end with friends in Muskegon, Mich. The Howard Evans family will spend Christmaas Sunday with the Fisher family, near Hebron. Mr. arul Mrs. Arthur Burk will spend this week-end in Armstrong, 111., with his mother. Andrew DeHaan is driving a new' Mecury V-8.
DEMOTTE COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS PROGRAM
The DeMotte Community Club meets this Thursday night at the school gym for a Special Christmas Program. The school children will present a program of Christmas songs and recitations.
James Benes, son of Rev. and Mrs. L. H. Benes of DeMotte, will arrive here to spend the holidays.' He is a student at Central College. Pella, la., and is a member of the Y. M. C. A., the Voolunteers, the Theopeithians, L. E. Phi literary souneiety, InterSociety Council, Student Council, Pi Kant,a Delta and the Philosophy club. Mrs. Sam DeKoek was hostess to her bridge club Tuesday evening; a Christmas exchange of gifts waheld. Shirley Hart, daughter of Mrs. Beulah Hart, fell on the ice Monday after school and broke her right leg about four inches above the ankle. ♦ * She was taken to the Jasper county hospital where an x-ray was made. BIDS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF 216 MILES ELECTRIC LINES
Construction bids on 216 miles of Rural Electrification lines in Jasper county were let on the 16th day of December. Bids went to the Cater Construction Co., of Kansas City. Mo. on the average bid of $755.88 per mile. This makes the total cost of the first section of lines to be built in Jasper county of $1j63,268.97. As soon as final approval has Tje.en given by R. E. A , the contractor will be ordered to start work immediate’ Local officials and all those interested will make a very extensive campaign for the purpose of securing memberships along . the proposed lines, as well as any additional territories where weople people are de sirous of having the advantages of electricity. On Jan. 6th this campaign will close. Local officials have had reasonable assurance that additional lines could be worked up and that if the requir ed material was submitted to R. E. A within the stated time it would be possible to add additional lines to those now' proposed to be built. If you happen to be one of those who have not signed up, now is the time to do so and also contact your neighbors, and see that they become interested in this program. Anyone interested in any phase of this program can get information by calling the R. E. M, C. oft ice at Rensselaer, located on the west sid;* of the court house square. To aid certain communities in their campaign for applications the following meetings are scheduled; On Tuesday evening, Dec. 27, at the Wheatfield school, and Wednesday evening at the Newland school. The meeting will start at 7:30 o’clock. Project officials will be on band to answer questions. Whether you have signed memberships or not you are invited to attend.
