LOCAL BOY FINDS BODY OF LAD DROWNED AT LAKE

The body of John Beckham, aged 7 Gary, who drowned about 3:30 Sunday afternoon in Bass Lake, was recovered an hour later when Richard Csting, of DeMotte, located the body in a hole in the lake. The boy had gone to the lake with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. E. Gciselman, of Gary, with whom he and his father lived. He was playing in the water at the beach at the south end of the lake, when he disappeared. Thinking the lad had wandered away in the crowd, the uncle started to seaKch. Later the alarm was given and the body was found by Richard Osting. A pullmotor, squad worked over the boy for an hour but could not revive him. Besides the father, three brothers and a sister survive. \ Another accident marred the week end 4th of July celebration at ‘Base Lake when a chain holding the s seat on the flying swingi broke and threw a boy some 50 feet through the air. He landed in a tier of seats, and although painfully cut, he was not seriously injured. He was a distant lelative of A. L. Jensen of Wheatfield, residing at Chicago.
