HERMAN AMES’ THROWS HAT IN RING FOR SHERIFF
Herman Ames, resident of Nevrton township, on Saturday swelled the number of Republican candidates for sheriff to five with his declaration of candidacy. The other four are William Woodworth, Al Watson, Lew Robinson and Louis Walstra. Mr. Ames has never held public office. He was a candidate for the Republican nomination for sheriff at the Primaries four years ago, finishing a good second in a field of 13 candidates, being defeated by Vern Michal. The candidate is 44 years of age. He has been a resident of Jasper county since he was 12 years of age. Recently he has been working for the county highway department. He owns land in Newton township where he and his family have their home. Mr. Ames is a veteran of the world war, having seen two and one-half years overseas. Mr. and Mrs. Ames has three sons, two of whom are students at Rensselaer high school.
