LOWELL DEFEATS BRUNSWICK

The Lowell sluggers were long overdue for a batting rampage and they hit it last Sunday in the 5th inning, scoring 7 runs on 7 hits, 4 of them extra base hits. The Brunswick team first happened to be the unfortunate victim, the final score being 10 to 1 with Lowell on the long end. Roberts did some fine work on the mound for Lowell besides driving in two runs with a timely single. He was at his best when under pressure, getting 15 strike-outs, and holding the usually hard-hitting Brunswick team to six hits, the Bloesh brothers getting all 6. Roberts really deserved a shut-out, the visitors’ lone run being of the unearned variety. Shorty Levitt caught a sweet game for Lowell in the absence of Davis. B. Gerner and Sherrill Hayden executed a lightning double play in the 8th and fell just short of a triple play. Shelby will be at Oakland Park (Lowell) next Sunday. This is the team that beat Lowell 5-2 in a practice game and has spread the news along the Kankakee Valley that they are too tough for Lowell. Blackstone will probably be on the mound for Shelby; and Roberts for Lowell.
