VELMA LOUISE MEYERS
We never know when we see a bud open to the sunshine whether it will reach maturity or be blasted by the storms of life. So it is with these sorrowing parents when on October 16, 1928 Lee E. Meyers and his wife Ruby (Pettet) Meyers welcomed their daughter, Velma Louise into their home. Their hearts rejoiced and their hopes were high for her future, yet on June 10, 1933, at the Jasper Co. hospital the heavenly Father looked down upon her and saw her suffering and as he is always merciful he called her home. So at the age of 4 years, 7 months, and 28 days God saw fit to pluck this bud. Father, mother, relatives and friends did everything in their power to alleviate the suffering of this dear one, but despite the devotion of all and the care of physicians she had to go. Her death was caused by an infection following a hurt on her left hand. She leaves to mourn her departure, her parents, one brother, Elwin Lee, one sister, Joyce Anne, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Pettet, and Mrs. Johanna Meyers, besides a number of other relatives and friends. Little Velma Louise was an unusually bright and promising child and to know her was to love her. Her untimely death has cast a pall of sadness over the entire vicinity. God needed just one more fair one Amidst his angel band. So, he bent down with loving smile And clasped our darling’s hand. Funeral services were conducted at the Kniman M. E. church by Rev. Doyle Mullin of Rensselaer with interment at Weston Cemetery, Rensselaer.
