Marion Carter has moved into the new home built by Sekema and Swart Bros. Dr. Leeson, of DeMotte, reports the following births: To Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Tysen, a boy, May 30th; to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Swart, a boy, May 30th; to Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Cheever, a girl, June 2nd. The Lowell junior Legion baseball team wants games with DeMotte, Shelby, and others. Write to Roy Black, Lowell, Ind. Attention Farmers! You can now get $5.00 each for any old duck. Enquire at cheese plant. Don’t forget the big barn dance at McGlinn’s big barn Saturday night same high class music. Everyone invited, good order and a good time guaranteed. Wheatfield was too much for us last Sunday, winning the game by a score of 7 to 3, Smith of DeMotte was nicked for 17 hits while Tilton only allowed 5 scattered hits. Pace of Shelby informs us that they lost a 4 to 5 ten inning game to the Elks speed boys of Valparaiso. If he hadn’t swiped our star fielder maybe that tenth inning jinx would not have appeared. A good many hundred acres of corn were planted this week in the Kankakee River bottoms. The DeMotte Junior base ball team composed of boys under sixteen years old won over Wheatfield by a score of 4 to 1. Bricker pitcher for DeMotte allowed one hit, walked one and struck out 17. Hight of Wheatfield allowed three hits, walked one and struck out eight. This, was a real pitchers battle. This team will play the Crown Point Bull Dogs next Sunday here; their game will start at 11 o’clock Sunday morning. The Crown Point Regulars will play DeMotte at 12:30 and the Gary Police will play DeMotte immedately after this game. Three big games, all with good teams. Arnold Hanaway says some old Fords can out run some Cheveys. At the election Tuesday Keener township went wet by a large majority. A celebration was held the same evening. We have heard of going the longest way home when a girl was along and calling it the shortest way, but Tuesday night we saw a man getting away with this same stunt with no girl figuring in the deal. School is out in Chicago and Ray Van Meerten says he will not have to take his girls mother along on Sunday nights any more, therefore trading his two seated car for a roadster. One of the largest crowds this season attended the barn dance last Saturday night. The Schrader Dredge on the DeHaan clean-out is going again. One section of this job was re-let to Carl Matox. The new law paved the way for this much needed improvement. Fred McGlinn while on his way to Chicago this week witnessed a hold up on Halstead Street. A Lincoln car swung around another Lincoln forcing it to the curb and with machine guns robbed the three passengers and then proceeded on their way. Another good fellow was robbed at Hebron this week. This traveling salesman picked up a man at the stop light in Hebron and as soon as they were out of town this fellow with a gun took car and everything of value and set the owner afoot. The car was later recovered. Pink Spencer contemplates buying a large, fully equipped barn. He can be interviewed about this matter at his home on Railroad St. The Keener township Dairy is going to build a raised platform on which all milk and whey arguments can be settled without disturbing the rest of the workers. Mr. and Mrs. Fred McGlinn and daughters Mary Jane and Shirley Ann shopped in Gary, Wednesday.
