Miss Cora Schoonveld and Miss Emma Dykema had supper Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Ausema and daughter, Ida. On Monday evening, March 27, relatives and friends celebrated Mr. Melvin Toppens eightieth birthday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. Dykema. Refreshments were served and a wonderful time was had by all. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McGlinn visited with Mr. and Mrs. Fred McGlinn Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Sykema and Mr. and Mrs. T. DeVries of Roseland visited the Dykema’s home Thursday. The chairmen of the by-laws committee of the Jasper County Farm Bureau were called to Rensselaer for a special meeting Tuesday afternoon. A large crowd attended the Community meeting Tuesday evening. There will be one more community meeting and we hope we shall have as large a crowd as the last one. The Five Hundred club are to meet with Helen Curtin, Thursday evening. Little Jimmy Dickey, Jr., celebrated his first birthday last Thursday. DeMotte was well represented at the show in North Judson last Sunday night. Mr. Roy Van Meertin went to Chicago Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. May and Mr. and Mrs. Bauman went to North Judson to the show Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. May entertained Mr. and Mrs. Mid Hart and Mr. and Mrs. Bauman with a waffle supper Sunday night. Friday evening, Mr. and Mrs. May attended a school party at Kniman. Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Tyler of Medaryville spent Monday night and Tuesday, with Mr. and Mrs. Sam McGinnis. A new Ford wheel, with tire and tube, three new casings, a set of harness and a log chain was “fished out” of a ditch just north of DeMotte by Deputy Sheriff McGlinn this week. The set of harness belonged to James Kanne, of Wheatfield.
