Frank Hopper, who was to celebrate his 73rd birthday anniversary on the 29th of February, had to celebrate on March 1st, but it turned out quite well indeed. Many friends gathered at the Hopper home on the evening of March 1st to make amends, and all were loaded with nice gifts, and good things to eat. The very enjoyable evening was spent in playing pinochle and bunco. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. I. Luchine and family of Black Oak; Mrs. Harry Press and son, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Massenger and family, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Archibald, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stephenson and son, Mrs. C. L. Bengtson and son, all of Hessville; Mr. and Mrs. M. Regnien of Hammond; and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Peterson of Schneider. Mrs. E. C. Bruckman, Mrs. J. Taylor, Mrs. H. Hayden, and Mrs. Haryy Anderson were hostesses to the Schneider Woman’s Club on Thursday of last week. After the business routine had been completed, the afternoon’s entertainment was in the hands of the hostesses. The usual diversion of bunco was in order. Those receiving gift awards were Mrs. H. P. Simms, Mrs. J. Stesjal, and consolation, Mrs. Harry Kelly. Mr. and Mrs. L. Billings and family, formerly of Illinois Station, are new residents of Schneider. Mr. and Mrs. Fred McRoberts and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Minninger visited the World’s Fair Grounds in Chicago, Sunday. Fred Hartwich, principal of Chaminade High School of Dayton, Ohio, arrived Tuesday, enroute to Chicago to attend a convention, to spend a short time with his father, Mr. G. Hartwich and family. Mr. and Mrs. Roderich Lyman of Morocco were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Smith on Sunday. A. Vicory, Emil Larson, A. Hartwich, and W. Fry were business callers in St. John on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. M. Wiertel, and John and Julia Wiertel were guests at the A F. Hartwich home on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Simms, and Miss Carrie Correl were Gary visitors Friday. Mrs. E. C. Bruckman left Monday for a visit with her sister, Mrs. B. H. Clark of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mrs. C. E Minninger, Mrs. Fred McRoberts, and Dorothy Fry were Momence shoppers Thursday. Mrs. Henry Nelson of Kankakee is a guest at the William Fry home. Mrs. John Bradberry of Gary, formerly of Schneider, called at the Frank Hopper home Sunday. Mr. and Mts G. Hartwich, Mrs. A. F. Hartwich and John Hartwich visited with Mrs. F. Eichholz of St. Anne, Illinois, on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Harry P. Simms visited with Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Simms of Chicago on Sunday. Miss Bertis Watts, Mrs. R. Born, and Mrs. C. E. Minninger were Momence callers Monday. Mrs. A. F. Hartwich attended the
Mission Club at the home of her sister, Mrs C. Hennecke in Chicago, on Thursday of last week.
