Stinging indignation was provoked last week at Otto’s service station when Mr. Cyphers, the proprietor, refused the Boosters Club continued free use of the radio. The boosters, a heavy contributor to the stations business, instantly retaliated with the threat of |a paralyzing boycott. Mr. Cyphers, seething with anger and determination took immediate steps to combat this menace, negotiating for the hire of a large corps of professional boycott-breakers. Alarming developments were fortunately averted, however, when Mr. Cyphers closeted himself for two hours behind locked doors with C. M. Fuller, president and representative of the incensed Boosters. At the end of the lengthy confab Mr. Fuller announced to waiting newspapermen that an agreement had been reached where-by Mr. Cyphers had promised free use of the radio in the near future, with the understanding that the club would exert its enormous influence in throwing all possible trade to the station. The community, torn into factions by the difficulty, highly commend the Messrs Cyphers and Fuller for their diplomatic ability which prevented any hostilities over the situation at its very crisis. A beautiful service was observed Sunday evening, March 5th at the church when Kenneth Wells Franke son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Franke was dedicated to God in Christian baptism. Friends of Franke’s from Chicago acted as sponsors for the child. Rev. Jarvis of Chicago was
the officiating minister. Baptism is not a saving ordinance, but it is the Master’s command. On earth He blessed the children as they were brought to Him. How about your boy and your girl? They are gifts from the Father’s hand to you. Have you given them back to Him? You withhold a blessing from yourself and your children when you neglect this duty. There would be fewer broken hearts among parents today if they would acknowledge God in their lives and bring the children to Him who said “Of such is the kingdom of Heaven”. Dedication of children in baptism March 19 at 2 p. m. at the church.
