Martha Ella Gorrell was born in San Pierre, Ind., Sept. 2, 1881, and departed this life Feb. 28, 1933, at the age of 51 years, 5 months, 26 days, death following a brief illness of one week. Early in life she became affiliated with the Evangelical church of which she remained a faithful member to her death, having given faithful and active work in the Sunday School work. On June 15, 1912, she was united in marriage to Earl V. Gorrell of Kendallville, Ind., the husband preceding her in death October 27, 1928. Surviving her are three sisters, Mrs. Magdalena Mathews, Mrs. Emma Brown of San Pierre, and Mrs. Jock Carroll of Chicago, one brother, John, of San Pierre and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the St. Luke Evangelical church of San Pierre. Rev. John Schiable and Rev. C. W. Walmes officiating. Interment in the local cemetery. The Royal Neighbors enjoyed a pleasant bunco party in the lodge hall last Wednesday night. Prize winners were Mrs. R. Richardson. Miss Edna Batzka and Mrs. R. Long The party was brought to a close by the serving of refreshments. Word was received Tuesday of the death of the mother of Mrs. Otto Swankis at Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Hecker and Mrs. Jock Carroll returned to their homes at Gary and Chicago Sunday following a week’s visit with relatives. Geo. Eckers of Chicago was here last week visiting relatives. The local independent teams journeyed to LaCrosse Tuesday night where they met the LaCrosse first and second teams. The Guards won 19-16 while the Cards lost 15-13. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Long, of Monon, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Long and children of Hanna, were guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Long.
