VETERAN LEGISLATOR DROPS DEAD IN NEW YORK. The death of Congressman Will R. Wood, former member of congress from this district occurred at the home of a friend in New York on Tuesday morning just as he was preparing for a two months vacation in foreign lands. News of his death was received here in a brief telegram and in news flashes over the radio during the afternoon. His death closes a long public career which ended officially on March 4th, when his term as congressman expired. During his long service in public life he attained national prominence first as chairman of the powerful ways and means committee and later as chairman of the national congressional committee. He was aged 72 years and was a widower, his wife having died in 1924. He is survived by two sisters. The body was shipped from New York to Washington on Wednesday where funeral services will be held and it will then be brought to Lafayette for burial. Resolutions of respect were passed by the Young Men’s Republican Club on Tuesday evening, in recognition of the long service rendered to Lake County by the deceased.
