SCHOOLS ARE RE-COMMISSIONED
H. E. MOORE, ASSISTANT INSPECTOR, MAKE RECOMMENDATION.
Five high schools with grades attached were re-commissioned upon the recommendation of H. E. Moore, who is the assistant state school inspector. Mr. Moore visited in Jasper county on February 1 and found all schools functioning up to the state standards. Remington system was given the highest commission offered by the state department of public instruction. A first class commission organized on the six-six plan was given to Remington for grades one to twelve (1-12) inclusive. Wheatfield came in for next highest ranking with a continuous commission for grades one to twelve (1-12) inclusive. Expiring commissions were issued to Fair Oaks, DeMotte and Tefft. Mr. Moore was unable to visit Hanging Grove and Kniman.
Outside of Rensselaer Remington is the largest school system in the county. Fair Oaks high school ranked next to Rensselaer in numbers for several years prior to this. But when Newton county decided to educate its own pupils at Mount Ayr this year it reduced the enrollment at Fair Oaks about fifty high school pupils. DeMotte, Fair Oaks and Wheatfield have enrollments ranging around eighty in the high school departments. Remington now has around 115. Tefft has a four year high school with an enrollment of 37 in the high school. Kniman and Hanging Grove each offer but the first two years of high school and each has an enrollment of about twenty high school pupils.
