Discovering the Northeast Passage
The Sibiriakov, the expedition ship of the Russian Soviet that recently set a new passage across the Arctic from Russia to Japan, stranded on the heavy ice floes of the Arctic during its journey when it lost its propeller blades. After gruelling labors in the cold, icy waters, the crew succeeded in lifting up the stern of the vessel and fitting it with new blades for the remainder of the journey.
