Miss Marian Moran left for Chalmers Sunday' to resume i\er cuties as teacher there, after spending the Christmas vacation with home folks. The Zion Evangelical church of San Pierre held revival services each evening during the past two weeks with Mr. Howard Steele of Mishawaka as song leader. Children’s hour was also held each afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Long motored to Michigan City Saturday to attend a New Year’s eve party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Jacobson. Edwin Eckert, who had spent the past two weeks at the P. R. Eckert home, left Tuesday afternoon for Fort Dbdge, lowa, where he is employed as a dredge operator. Eugene Stalbaum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stalbaum, was stricken with an attack of appendicitis last Wednesday evening and was taken to the Holy Family hospital at LaPorte, where an operation was performed immediately. At latest reports he was getting along nicely.
Joe Fullam returned to the University of Alabama Monday after spending the two weeks Christmas vacation with home folks. Mrs. Meta Arndt and children of Valparaiso, Mrs. Vernon Weinkauf and children of LaCrosse, spent the past week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. Rennewanz. Owen Daly, Jr., of Elkhart, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dusek and daughter of Gary, spent New Year’s dav with Mr. and Mrs. Owen Daly, Sr., and Herretta. Thursday night the San Pierre Independent teams chalked up two victories by defeating the Hamlet fives. The Guardsmen won their game by the score of 42 to 34 arid the Cardinals won 21 to 13. Friday the Guardsmen journeyed to Michigan City where they played the Hershes Department Store team and tasted defeat by a score of 36 10,30
Miss Edna Hauke returned home Thursday from Mishawaka, where she spent the week as a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Weinkauf and family. Mrs. Jesse Clawson reports that she has received material for 5G children’s dresses during the oast week for the Red Cross headquarters at Knox and is appealing for volunteers to prepare the garments. ° ; While enroute to Chicago Wednesday afternoon, P. R. Eckeit met with an auto accident. When traveling north of Crown Point, a tire blew out. the car, a new Pontiac, turned over three times. Mr. Eckert received several deep cuts about the face ana a Dadly bruised chest. He was rushed to a hospital it Gary, where he is still confine i to bed. From latest reports he is getting along as well as could be expected. English church services were held at the St. Luke’s church Sunday. Following services the annual meeting and election of officers were held.
Misses Marcella Fawcett and Frances Sm|sh returned to their cuties as teachers in the local school Monday after spending the Christmas week with their parents. Miss Helen Batzka of LaPorte. spent the former pajrt of the week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Batzka and family.
Postmaster L. Rennewanz, who was on the sick list during the latter part of the week, was taken to the Holy Family hospital at LaPorte by his daughter, Mrs. Meta Arndt, last Saturday, for an X-ray. At present he is able to be up again. Asst. Postmaster C. Brown, who has been on the sick list for the past two weeks, returned to his work Monday. Rural carrier Wm. Fullam and Otto Cecil substituted during the illness. ' Ed. Lang and wife, Mr. and Mrs. R. Long, autoed to Hanna. New Years day, where they were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Leng and family. The Tom Daly family have been i under the scarlet fever quarantine । since last Wednesday. Their oldest daughter, “Peggy” was the victim of the disease..
