AW, SHUCKS!

We just finished reading about the submitting of bids for the Jasper county ballot printing for the in November. We note with interest that Mr. F. E. Babcock, who is President of the Board of Election Commissioners, sent out several letters, on his own responsibility, to several printing firms requesting bids on 8,500 ballots. Our letter for bid proposal surely must have went astray, at least we never received our copy at DeMotte. As a result of these letters the Board received three bids, one from the Jasper County Democrat for $33 one from the Remington Press at a price slightly higher, and the winning bid from the Rensselaer Republican for $5. We do not wish to join the ‘Mickey Mouse’ battle between our good friends, the Jasper County Demo-

crat or the Rensselaer Republican, but we just wanted to say that we would have appreciated the opportunity of bidding on these ballots. As a matter of fact, we were planning on making our bid 99c.
