Mr. and Mrs. Neil Sekema and daughter Mabel, and Mrs. Robert Weirsma were shopping in Hammond Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Barker attended the funeral of a well known friend in Hammond Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. R. Grevenstuk called on their neice and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Galbreath at LaCrosse Sunday. A number from here attended the show “Grand Hotel” at the Gayble Theatre in North Judson last Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. May, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Euart and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rathburn were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bauman Sunday evening. The evening was spent in playing bridge. Mr. Sam Hamstra, Miss Teresa DeHaan and Miss Jean Oosting motored to Terre Haute Sunday and brought Victor VanMeerten home. Victor has been in the hospital nursing an injured foot acquired trying to block Sam Hamstra’s truck Miss Alice VanMeerten accompanied home Miss Mildred Brown of Wheatfield to spend the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Fase and daughter Phyllis of Chicago spent the week end with home folks. Mr. and Mrs. Rufus McCuskey and daughter, and Mr. McCuskey’s mother of Lowell had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Simon Groet Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Smith and daughter, Florence of Chicago, called on Mr. and Mrs. Andrew DeHaan and family Sunday. Mr. Jessie Summers and daughter Jean motored to Chicago Saturday to call on some relatives. Mrs. Thomas Andrews and Mrs. Salaba of South Chicago, were week end visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Banker and family. Dr. Ernest E. P. Leeson returned Mr. George Brennan of Berwyn spent the week end with Miss Jacoba DeKock. Miss Amy Grunwald had chicken dinner with Miss Francis Hackelberg Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Grinberg and son and wife and Mr. and Mrs. J. Grinberg called on the Groet family Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. James Dickey and son of Gary were week end visitors here. Mr. Raymond VanMeerten spent Sunday in Midlathian, Ill. visiting with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. May motored to Remington Saturday to spend the day with Mr. and Mrs. G. E May. Miss Jacoba DeKock spent Saturday in Rensselaer on business. The Epworth League young folks of DeMotte gave a ‘steak fry’ in honor of the Epworth League young folks of Tefft last Friday evening. A large number were present. The latter part of the evening was spent in playing games. All returned to their homes after having a good time. Misses Irene VanGinkle, Louise McGlinn and Johnny McGlinn were quite surprised last Wednesday night when the steering gear locked on their “chevy’ and they found themselves in Mr. VanGinkles potato patch. Johnnie and Alberta VanMeerten and Mabel Hooker of Midlathian, Ill., spent Sunday in the VanMeerten home. Mrs. Anna Yeagley motored to Chicago Friday to visit her daughter Ruby and Louise McGlinn took her place working in the Kup Restaurant. Miss Amelia Shellack of Remington is employed in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lagaveen. Miss Dorothy Summers who has been visiting in Chicago the past week returned home Saturday. Air. E. F. Grunwald of Chicago was a visitor in DeMotte Saturday. Quite a number of baseball fans from here motored to Kouts Sunday to see DeMotte play the Gary Barns Ice team. Mrs. Harvey Moore visited in Remington Tuesday. Don’t forget our Community meeting, Tuesday, October 25, in the Auditorium. Everyone invited to attend. Mrs. Gerald Curtin and twins are spending a few days with her parents in LaCrosse.
