SHEARS BUDGET

The Jasper council dropped one office and reduced the rate from 54c to 44c; also a saving of expenses amounting to $17,000 was brought about. The position abolished was that of the Attendance Officer. We note that the fruit hijackers on the Lincoln highway are still plying their trade and quite busy of late. Monday there was a large truck load of grapes seized near Dyer, which also resulted in the owners loss of his brand new truck. It is estimated that several hundred truck loads of Michigan fruit and produce pass through the Calumet district eacn night enroute to Chicago markets. “Grand Hotel” is to be shown at the Gayble Theatre, in North Judson, four days, Oct. 12, 13, 14 and 15. No motion picture ever made has caused the furore that has greeted this famous picture that ran for an entire year to capacity audiences in New York. There has never been, and perhaps will never be again, such a magnificient cast assembled for any one picture. Greta Garbo, John Barrymore, Joan Crawford, Wallace Beery, Lionel Barrymore, Jean Hersholt and Lewis Stone are some of the major luminaries to be seen in “Grand Hotel”. The most exacting theatre goer could not ask for more.
