JURY ACQUITS NEGRO
Jewell Thompson, aged 16, of Gary, Ind., was acquitted in the Jasper circuit court having been accused of killing his father last May. Directly following the verdict of ‘not guilty’ Prosecutor Underwood announced his decision of withdrawing charges against Mrs. Alice Thompson, the youths mother. Jewell told the court that he had confessed to this murder due to the third degree forced upon him by officers, and swore that he knew nothing of the crime.
TO THE VOTERS OF JASPER COUNTY:--False rumors are being circulated to the effect that I have selected a Deputy, in case of my election to the Sheriff’s office at the polls next November. There is no truth in such statements as no such promises have been made by me to anyone. VERN MICHAL Subscribed and sworn to before me this 25th day of September, 1932. (SEAL) Sam Roth, Clerk By M. Roth, Deputy Clerk.
