Mr. and Mrs. Simon Groet entertained Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kuiper, Jr. and children, Mr.: William Ostendorf and children, all of Chicago, last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. P. Musch had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Grevenstuq last Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Otto Smith and daughter, Florence and also Mr. Weber visited at the home of Mr. Ed. Sekema last Sunday, it being Mr. Smith’s birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Meyers and daughter Eva of CroWn Point visited at the home of Andrew DeHaan last Sunday evening after the DeHaan’s had dinner with them at their home. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Slager and family of Downers Grove have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Frank DeHaan. Mrs. Slager is Mrs. DeHaans sister. Mr. Louis Benes Jr., preached last Sunday at the Holland Reformed Church. He and his wife will leave Tuesday for their home in Albany N. Y. A number of friends surprised Mrs. Lee Myers at her home last Monday. The surprise party was in honor of her 32nd birthday, The aft ernoon was spent playing Bunco. A dainty lunch was served ending a very pleasant afternoon. Mrs. Wm. Dyke is spending the week in Chicago with her sister, Mrs. N. Wayner. Misses Lillie Carter and:' Dora Greathouse motored to Bloomington, Illinois, last Friday. Mrs. Neil Sekema and Mrs. Robert Weirsma spent Thursday night at the Art Johnson home at Wanerly Beach. “Bob” Weirsma, Sim Punter, Lester Crauford and Frank Rhoda went fishing on the Tippecanoe river over the week end. Ester, are spending a few days in Tacoma. Wash. Miss Grace Sekema is visiting a Misses Dorothy Summers and Amy Grunwald were visitors at Hebron last Wednesday. Mrs. Laurence Bauman entertained a group of merry youngsters last Tuesday night, with a weiner roast, in honor of her neice June Thompson. Miss Andrews of New York is visiting here with Doctor Ernest E. P. Leeson. Mrs. Frank Collins and daughter, Marjorie of Rensselaer spent the week end with her sister, Mrs. Harvey Moore.
Miss Alice VanMeerten, who has been spending the past week with relatives in Midlothian, Illinois, returned home accompanied by her cousin Miss Alberta Van Meerten. Doctor Leeson spent Monday in Chicago on business. Mrs. James Dickey and son Jimmy of Gary are visiting the home folks this week. Fred Sheever who has been working in Missouri is spending the week end with his wife and daughter, Mary Lou. Howard Luse and mother are spending the week end with Mrs. Chas. Spencer. The Methodist Church is presenting an ice cream social, Friday 26th. Also a musical program. Be sure to attend.
Miss Florence Felthouse and brother Johnnie of Chicago spent the week end at their sisters home, Mrs. Elb Cheever. “Bill” Burns has opened up his new pool-room in the Cheever building, with the entrance at the south end of the building. Mrs. Art Lagoveen and occupants of their car experienced a general shaking up when Mrs. Lagoveen attempted to pass another car on loose gravel, causing her car to strike a telephone pole, spoiling a perfectly good fender. They were enroute to Winona Lake. Get your Sunday newspaper at Curtin Bros. Restaurant. Several from here attended the show at North Judson last Sunday. The DeMotte schools will open with the following teachers: J. F. Slaubauph, principal, S. B. Llewelyn. Devon Phelps, Nettie Williams, Mrs. Wm. May, Alfred Ewart, Mrs. Fern Bauman, Miss Velma Kennedy, Mrs. Alfred Ewart, and Mrs. Ruth Rapp.
