Mr. and Mrs. Silas Latta and neice Wava Jean Doty and Mr. and Mrs. George Stowell of this community were among the guests at a farewell dinner given last Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Everett King, in honor of Mr. King’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel King, who have been visiting here, and are now returning to their home in Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bunker of East Chicago are spending the week with Mrs. Bunkers parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler Nichols. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Eich and family of Lowell and Miss Mary Ameling of Crown Point were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eich. Miss Dorothy Carlson returned home Sunday after a weeks visit with relatives in Hammond. Miss Paulette Eich entertained several of her friends on August 15th, her birthday. Virgil Luchene has opened a shoe repair shop at his home in Shelby. Mrs. Earl Sirois and Mrs. Holton Brown attended the Wood family reunion in Lowell Sunday. Mrs. Seldon Spieth of Monon spent two days of last week with Mrs. Silas Latta, attending the Shelby Home Bureau picnic while here. Mr. and Mrs. John Flatt Went into Chicago last Sunday and saw the Cubs play. Arline Stiles is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Chas. Carlson, this week. Miss Ruth Stell of Chicago has come home to take care of her mother, Mrs. Rosa V. Brown, who is not so well this week. Mrs. George Regnier spent Tuesday and Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Latta. Mrs. Mary Bauman, of Chicago has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs. James Moscato, for the past year, are on their way home. Mr. and Mrs. William Sapp, Mrs. Bald’s parents, are eagerly awaiting their arrival. Mrs. Elbert Miller entertained a number of girls at a surprise party for her daughter Ruth, on Monday afternoon, in honor of her eleventh birthday. Miss Margaret Meyers of Crown Point is spending her vacation with her sister, Mrs. E. K. Larson, this week. You are cordially invited to attend the services by Rev. J. R. Brink of Chicago, next Sunday at 2 p. m. in the DeMotte school, and at 7:30 p. m. in the M. E. church at Fair Oaks. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith were pleasantly surprised (?) last Friday evening, when over forty of their friends from Hessville and Shelby, dropped in for a pound shower. Mrs. Edson Worley and daughter Juanita, of Donovon, Ill., spent the first part of the week with Mrs. Eva Reyels. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Vliet and son Jack, and Mr. and Mrs. George Mahn spent Sunday of last week at the J. W. Vliet cottage. Mr. and Mrs. J. Schehl and children of Chicago were guests of the Vliets on Monday. Mrs. J. S. Gilmore was pleasantly surprised on Saturday of last week, when several of her friends and relatives came in to help her celebrate her birthday. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Gilmore, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Czach and son Robert, Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Gilmore, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stocks, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Gilmore, and Gloria, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Scholl, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Vliet and Mr. J. S. Gilmore. Mr. J. S. Glimore spends every week end with his family at their cottage here. Mrs. Flora Cutler and son of Creston and Mrs. Elma Southwick of Wabash visited their brother Homer Edgerton last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Iliff of Hessville were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Luchene last Wednesday. Mr. Edw. Fuller visited his son Brook and family in Indianapolis a few days this week. Roy Franke who is employed in Chicago is spending the week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Franke. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Sapp of Hammond spent last week at the home of Mr. Sapps parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sapp. Don Dickey is home again, after
attending the extension course of Indiana University in Gary most of the summer
