Last Tuesday night Harry Car penter was thot at by Harvey Hays, at Petersburg, Over some dispute over Carpenter,s recent divorce from his second wife, some say jealously. Carpenter was only hit once out of 4 or 5 shots, and that is only a flesh wound in the shoulder Harry ought to kneel down by his pallet each night and thank the good Lord that 'Hays couldn't shoot straight. Hays was arrested and bpundover to court We like the gay and fascinating Harry, as a preacher or pjlitical speaTcer he is a man whose oratory breathes music in every word, a? Ja lawyer he is not much good and is always letting skirts get him in bad; beintr divorced by both his first aLd second wives, 'howill be No. 3, Harry? Carpenter made use of the assault to announce that he would be a candidate for Judge five years from now. We guess he will have No 3 or maybe Nj. 4 by that time. You can always find some skirt wearer who is willing to take a chance, so cheer up Harry, you mty equal Nat Goodwin, by and bye, you've got a good start, if you don't meet somebody who can shoot straight. Several good stories have gone the rounds about Harry in Jasper, we vouch for the truth of none One says that ab?ut a year ago Harry came to; Jas par to attend couit accompanied by. his wifp. One day he met a certain Mrs- X cn the street an 1 requested, an engagement to mset her at her home when her husband was ab sent and they would have a "good time." The date was made. When Harry showed up the house was dark but Mrs. X invited him into the house. When they reached the sitting room, Mrs X pressed the -electric bulb and light flooded the room, and there sat Harry's wife. She said "Hello Harry, out visiting?" It was one of those moments when Harry wanted to be alone. rVe know of a number of families wfco ar rfjralar readers oftheCourie cot are not sabacribert, tbej borrow the pa per from their neighbors.
