Charles W. Eliot, president emeritus of Harvard, says that the aim of modern education Is "Joy and gladness in achievement" And, slowly, very slowly, we arc beginning to see that the process of education which doesn't bring Joy with It to the child, which he cannot enter Into with an enthusiasm similar to that which he manifests In play, is not true education, says New Success. We are beginning to see that we are on the Wrong track, and that the methods generally pursued, especially In our elementary schools, must be changed If we aro to get tho best possible results.

Producers of wearing apparel profess to believe a crisis Is approaching In the industry. And in the same breath they tell us prices for next spring are but G to15 per cent under last season's. Greed Is responsible for falling off In purchases and those concerned can apportion the blame as they will. . :

Tho Ohio State Journal says a girl doesn't have to.be porch-swung more than three times beforo tho engagement is announced. Still, It Is not always easy to tell at first whether she has beeu; porch-swung, or porch-stung, but you can tell when the divorce Is granted.

Jules Verne wrote about a trip to tho moon. A New England Inventor has designed f n rocket to make the trip. Nobody believes It can be made, but nobody can say It Is impossible to be done. Such truth mulntalns Its supremacy ns stranger than fiction.

The gods must wish to destroy contemporary Russia If It Is true they signalize objects of that fate by first driving them mad. For little less than

It Is one of the mysteries of nature why predictions atxmt ruins and thunderstorm generally are fulfilled, yhile those of fair and cooler weathvr are always more or less discounted by tho facti.

An abundance of school facilities was never more Important to America's national development than at tho present moment. Each generation shmild be more thoughtful and well Informed than the one preceding.

Prof. Kllhu Thompson predicts that by means of wlrehss telephones It will soon be &h easy to talk to all parts f tho world as It Is at present over the local;llnes. Does he think that's easy?

A citizen who can, as Habe Kuth does, secure the cheers of the multitude without making any reference to politics must be regarded as serving a highly useful purpose.

Divorce statistics show 1S.V00O women rind 1V.0i0 men divorced lnga year. Can you understand what becomes of the husbands of those 20,U) surplus women? ,

Perhaps, the. large Increase In divorces Is1 due V the fact that a lot of married m'n for the first time have found themselves In possession of enough money to IJre a lawyer.

Of course If the authorities pursue the home brew industry recklessly It inay lecome necessary for Hberty-lov-log sidVis to drink tHc fiuld Ingredients ftparmtely and theu swallow a rätsln.
