WILLIAM DUNCAN
Before he was an actor, William Duncan was an athletic Instructor and a writer for physical culture magazines, lie first appeared on the stage with Sandow, the strong man, and later toured the country at the head of his own dramatic company playing Hamlet. Today he Is known throughout the world as a serial star and director. Upon completing "Smashing Harriers" Albert K. Smith, president of Vitagrnph, furnished Mr. Duncan with a serial the production of which will cost $1,000.000. "The Silent Avenger" is the title of the new serial. It was written by Albert K. Smith and Cleveland Moffett. In this Mr. Duncan Is given umplo opportunity to show his skill as a fancy shot pool player, expert on the tennis court and clever slight of hand performer. The thrills provide the stardirecmr with material in which to demonstrate his strength nnd ability as an alf-rotn.'i ath!( U He insists on realism nnd will assume great risks to stage a thr.ii as it should be performed. he gave the most sensational exhibition of driving in history, accepting every risk and registering miraculous escapes no less than six times. His final feat of daredeviltry consisted of colliding with the grandstands to avoid hitting a spectator who had wandered on the course, nnd then, finding himself completely turned around, throwing on the power and cutting the finish line in reverse. During the world war, Hoillot was a French Ace, and the utter disregard for safety that he acquired during his numerous air combats seems to have persisted with him into his racing career. Hoillot's American racing debut was mad'j during the Indianapolis

The mount thut Hoillot handled on this occasion was of the same size as those being groomed for this year's classic, and it was largely due to its excellent showing against its larger rivals that the new speedway racing rules limiting piston displacement to 183 cubic inches were placed into effect.
