Their Medicine Chest For 20 Years

IT is characteristic of folks after they pass the allotted "three ecoro years and ten," to look hack over tho days that ore gone and thoughtfully live them over. I find myself, at seventy-ono, frequently drifting back a quarter of a century, when I see myself in tho little drug otoro 1 ownod at Bolivar, Mo., making and selling a vegetable compound to my friends and customers -what was then known only as Dr. Lewis' Medicine for Stomach, Liver and Bowel Complaints. For many years while I was perfecting my lonnula I studied and investigated tho laxatives and cathartics on the market and became convinced that their main fault was not that the; did not act on tho bowels, but that their action was too violent end drastic, and upset tho system of the user; which was duo to tho fact that they woro not thorough enough in their actioneomo simply acting on tho upper or omall intostinea, while others would act only on tho lower or largo intestines, end that they almost invariably produced a hafcifc requiring augmented doses. I believed that a preparation to produce the best effect must first tono tho liver, then net on the 3tomach and entiro alimentary system If this was accomplished, the medicine would produce a mild, but thorough elimination of tho waste without the usual sickening sensations, and m&ko the user feel better st once. After experimenting with hundreds of different compounds, I at last perfected the formula that is now known as Hatir&'a Rrandy, which I truly bcliovo goes further

and does more than any laxative on tho market today. Tho thousands of letter from users hava convinced me I was right, and that the user of Nature's RsoMiy as a family medicine, even though ho may have used it for twenty-fivo years, never has to increase the dose. My knowledge of medicine and the results of its use in my own family and among my friends, before I over offered it for sale, caused me to have great faith in Ha tan's Rosiedy from tho very first. And now as I find myself Hearing the age when I must bow to the inevitable and go to another life, my greatest pleasure is to Bit each day and read the letters that eaoh mail brings from people as old or older than I, who tell of having- used HatsnVs Ranwdy for ten, fifteen and twenty years, and how they and their children and grandchildren have been benefited by it. It is a consoling thought, my friends, for a man of my ago to feel that aside from his own success, one has dono something for hi3 follow man. My greatest satisfaction, my greatest happiness today, is tho knowledge- that tonight more than ono million people will tako a Hatos's asmtdy (NR Tablet) and will be better, healthier, happier peoplo for iL I hope you will bo ono of them.

While She Deplored the Average Man's

Lack of Knowledge of Tools He Evidently Had Been Doing Some Thinking.

The woman put down the magazine

she had been reading and addressed

herself to the family in general.

"There," she cried, "it says exactly

what I have been thinking for ages

and ages and never had sufficient sense to write about." 4

"What is that?" inquired her hus

band sleepily.

"It says that boys should be pre

pared for matrimony exactly as girls

should," replied the woman. "It says that they should have a course of

training in putting up pictures, in doing simple repairs to the plumbing, in

taking care of the furnace, in hang

ing curtains, making shelves and do

ing other carpentering work, just as girls should be taught how to cook and keep house."

At this her husband looked self-con-

ecious and he resumed his reading with

an ostentatious air of absorption, so that his better half was fain to continue her remarks to the more receptive sister who sat by.

"Especially when one lives in the

country should a husband have had some manual training," she went on.

"For instance, last week we found it

Impossible to turn oft! one of the spig

ots that fills the bathtub. A full

stream of water ran from it all day.

I telephoned Walter of the tragedy,

and he replied that I was not to bother,

for he would fix it as soon as he came home.

"When he reached home that even

ing he found that he could not do any

more to check the water thaa I had done, and so he sent a plumber out

from town the next morning.

The plumber examined the leak, said

that the washer on the spigot had

worn out, and that if I would give hira

a washer he would repair it at once. But I had no washer what Is a

washer, anyway? And so he had to

returned two hours later, put on the washer, stopped the leak srnd sent us

a bill for $7."

"But it was a peculiar sort of

washer," Interrupted her husband apologetically. "If it had been just a plain washer I could have done it."

His wife disregarded this explana

tion. "Then the laundry tubs became

stopped up," she went on, "and though I worked at them with a hatpin and the poker, I could not open them. The

plumber had to come out from town again. He brought with him a long

stick with a rubber cup on the end of

it, placed this cup over the vent in the

tub, pressed, and lo I all was well. The

bill for this piece of work was $3.50.

"l wanted a simple shelf put up in the bathroom and the carpenter who put it up charged $2.50 for that job. The door leading to our side porch had not been locked for a year because no one in this family can moVe a lock. Sometimes I wish that I had married a carpenter or a plumber. It must be lovely to have a man who can use tools constantly in the house." And as for the woman's husband, he put aside his book impatiently and arose. "Well, get me the nails and the boards and a hammer and I'll make that window box for you that you've been pining for," he said. "I'll show you that I am as good as a carpenter any day in the week." Providence Journal.

AS WELL AS EUHS Foots Ease to Be Added to Equipment of Hospital Corps at Fort Wayne. Under the above heading tho Detroit Fre6 Press, among other things says: The theory is that soldiers whose feet are in good condition can walk further and faster than soldiers -who have corns and bunions incased in rawhide." Tho Plattsbnrg Camp Manual advises men in training to shake FootEase in their shoe each morning. One war relief committee reports, of all the things senf-, out in their Comfort Bags or "Kits," Allen's Foot Ease received the most praise from the soldiers and men of the nsvy. It is used by American, French and British troops, because it takes the Friction from the Shoe and freshens the feet. There is no foot comforter equal to Allen's FootEase, the antiseptic, healing powder to be shaken into the shoes and sprinkled in the footbath, the standard remedy for over 25 years for hot, tired, aching, perspiring, smarting, swollen, tender feet, corns, bunions, blisters or callouses. "Why not order a dozen or more 25c. boxes to-day from your Druggist or Dep't. store to mail to your friends in training camps and in the army and navy.

Eloquence. "What is your idea of an orator?" "A real, natural-born orator," answerd Senator Sorghum, "is a man who can put up such a good monologue that you forget to notice whether his arguments are any good."

Sailor Now German Prisoner. Men serving on the destroyer Jacob Jones of the American fleet in foreign

German submarine. The attack came suddenly, late in the afternoon. Although every effort was made to return tho fight and save the ship, she finally settled and went down. Many of the men got into the boats and on the rafts and a great number were seen swimming in the sea. Two of these were picked up by the Germans. One of these men, John Francis Murphy, is now held as a prisoner by the Germans. After having gone through

the ordeal of being torpedoed Murphy made a heroic struggle to save members of the ship's ciew. No further news has been heard from him beyond the fact that he Is held prisoner in Germany. Murphy was a ship's cook, first class, on the Jones.
