THE FARMS' DOTY By W. D. HOARD, Editor Hoard's Dairyman. Our liberty has boon attacked on sea and on land, our freedom and institutions have been threatened, and our natiou placed in jeopardy. Our soldiers are called to arms and are 'marching to the front; our good women are devoting themselves to Rod Cross work, and civilians everywhere are aiding the government in its multiplicity of duties. War means supreme sacrifice to every able-bodied citizen, including men, women nnd children. It means unselfish and unremitting service. The tremendous preparation which the government is making to bring this Rwful war to a successful close means the expenditure of billions of dollars. 4 I)or cont interest. If pntriotlc'ronsons do not make a suflicient appenl for the farmer to Invest In (hem, hi.4 Js seinsn interest should move 1dm to render his country financial assistance. The Liberty Loan bonds are absolutely a safe Investment. Every dollar Ilot required for our business should he ready for prompt purchase of those nond.s. Tins is no sacrifice, it is a ju uimu;if ill vr.NUIUMU lor VOU. it IS helping your country and protecting your home and business. This is om of the few chances that have come tc American citizens to bavo money serve hoth patriotism and profit. I nni particularly anxious that that American farmer should .subscribe gen orousiy to this second Libert v Loan. He has responded nobly to the call for Increased crops and a hint to him that his money is needed also, will lead, I am sure, to the same unselfish devo-f tion to his nation. The farmer must not neglect this duty. Our country needs his financial assistance, and for his own welfare he should be generous' with his wealth. There may be slackers by faillpg to offer their money, but I vouchsafe the opinion that no Anancial slackers will be'foucid among tho farmers of America. LET US PLEDGE LOYALTY ANEW By CL1FORD V. GREGORY, j Editor the Prairie Farmer. '! Farmers this year have been blessed! with one of the greatest crops this country has ever raised. Prices arej far above normal. This combination. of large crops and high prices has, made farmers prosperous to an unusual degree. Our country is fighting the battle for justice and democracy. It is fighting that our homes, our families and our institutions may be safe for generations to come. Immense amounts of money are needed to finance the war. "We cannot all don the khaki and march to the front, but we can all do our bit to finance the great armies we are raising. Let us as farmers subscribe so liberally to tlie new Liberty Loan that we will set a high mark for the whole nation to. follow. Let us pledge our loyalty anew by sharing our prosperity with Uncle Sam.

Shall it be overwhelmed now for lack of money? Every loyal citizen of this great democratic republic wil! anrwer with a thundering "No!" But it takes money and more money to win victory, for wp must send our soldiers abrqad to fight this war in Europe rrthcr than our own country. The harder we strike the sooner tlie war vill be over, and the greater the response of the people to the oc-vernment's call for funds the harder we can strike.
