Prohibit Liquor,5 Then? By James C. Kelly Your average prohibitionist would by no means confine hk coercive doctrines to the elimination of alcoholic liquors. Prohibition with him is a firmly imbedded principle which he would readily apply to anything which fails to conform to his own idea of right and wrong. Such is the true prohibitionist, A Then there is the prohibitionist for profit only. He has been able to capitalize on the bigotry of his zealous followers. He also is quite ready to pply his prohibition scheme, not principle, to anything which promises financial reward. In hfe class are the discredited politician and the illicit dispenser of booze. Now letus suppose that we should have prohibition not Maine or Kansas prohibition but the genuine article. In that event where would we find our "dry" friends? Would they be satisfied and happy? These questions are being answered already by the bigoted movements of the sincere and professional fault finders. Already the movement against the sale and use of tobacco is under wav. Tobacco is a wonderful product, spreading solace and

contentment throughout the world. Of course there are fooli who use tobacco intemperately and acquire tobacco heart, cancer an'l other ailments. Apply the prohibition theory to the situation and you will demand, just as is now being demanded in some quarters, that the growth, sale and consumption of tobacco be forbidden by law. And then there are our old friends coffee and tea and even' the winter apples from which we extract delicious cider. Would they be next under the ban because they are the object! dt man's abuse? Absurd as such deductions may seem, they are theTojiicai' conclusion to which prohibition would lead. Prohibition, Willi most persons, is a state of mind manifested outwardly by a con-j tinual dissatisfaction with things in general. Adv.
