NOT TO BUY TOO MUCH RESOLUTION FOR BRIDE-ELECT TO KEEP IN MIND. Ever-Changing Stylei Make Elaborate Purchases a Wasteful Expenditure Select Only Garments That Will Meet Requirements. To put money into costumes that nro rarely required is utter extravagance. To put money Into the clothes that are most often needed and in which friends most often see one, is to spend wisely. It is what one wears every day that often determines one's reputation for looking well, rather than dowdiness interrupted by a "burst of glory on special occasions. Far töo many women argue the other way and cannot reason out why their everyday friends havo a slight opinion of their tasto in choosing clothes. Before one gown Is bought a brideelect wants to thresh out her prospective social life. She usually can determine whore the greatest demand will come. Even if her future lifo 4s to bo spent In a new city, she can come to a safe conclusion regarding her opportunities. In other words, she can draw up a scenario and IUI in afterward. As skirts grow full or narrow, as bodices grow slim or broad, as necks are high or low, as hips are compressed or left to curve, just so often changes the linen worn, beneath all these varying garments. Even the fabrics for underwear are not the same year in and year out. Linen, muslin, dimity, silk and jersey, in various weaves, give way to AS TO NERVES AND DIMPLES Women Should Carefully Avoid Giving Way to the Former, and Cultivate the Latter. Irritability is sometimes a habit; again it is the result of physical depletion or organic disturbances. The fretful female prefers to think it is the latter. Every woman should make the most strenuous endeavor not to be nervous and not to give way to emotional high jinks, because a calm and more amiable nature makes life much pleasanter and keeps one out of quarrels and misunderstandings. Nice people don't care for the worriers; the worriers interfere with nice people's pleasant thoughts. It is altogether sensible, to restrain one's petulance. We all admire dimpled shoulders, but no one has a good word to say for shoulders that are thin to a marked degree. The slender girl should spend some of her time practicing any cf the various shoulder exercises, as they will give her well developed shoulders and maybe a dimple or t.wo. Unless she takes tliis advice she will find herself in a sad predicament when rose time comes and frivolous low cut, summery frocks are with us once more. Stand erect in front of an opeti window and inhale, then, holding your breath, stretch your arms out horizontally and bend them around in front of the body until the outstretched palms touch each other. Next, swing them around the full Ialf circle quickly still at full length until palms touch behind back, as high up on the shoulder as possible. When this exercise is practiced for several minutes night and morning, it

Each is designed to suit some passing phase of fashion in outer garments, or improve in some fashion upon existing standards. Constantly, tho designers of underwear and corsets work thejr brains to tempt women, and women are tempted. Therefore no bride wants to be the unlucky possessor of dozems of white garments from which all stylo has lied. (Copyright, JOlö, by the McClura Nvspnpapr Syndicate) GOOD USE FOR REMNANTS
Patchwork Cuchlon Cover, Cleverly Made, Is One of the Best That Can Be Thought Of. Patchwork is certainly a means of utilizing small remnants of material that otherwise would be almost useloss, but unless the materials are tastefully pieced together the result in never pleasing. DICTATES OF FASHION Ostrich trimming is used on gowna. Smart shoes havo Hat buttons of smoked pearl. The new "Turkish petticoat" is in reality more like Turkish trousers. Scallops appear in every piece of feminine apparel and now even hats are scalloped. The tunic must be edged with a trimming to correspond with the trimming of the waist. There is a decided fancy for crepe de chine in lingerie, the pale colors being most favored. Baby's Own Quilt. Baby's newest down quilt is both pretty and practical. It has the upper and under sides of soft china silk of either pale bliie or pink, and over this is a cover of very sheer linen, says the Indianapolis News. The cover is the full size of the quilt after the edges are turned over, and it is mitered at the corners. The overlap is at least five inches and is usually finished with an embroidered scallop or lace edge. When the cover is soiled it can be easily removed and laundered and the silk quilt is protected from dirt and dust and the soil of frequent handling. results in shoulders that know not the meaning of the word "bony." Russian Boots Worn. Russian influence has been marked in clothes for several months, and some women have actually worn Russian boots. Now they can be had in some of the shops. One pair shown recently in the window of a smart shoe shop is made of soft green suede and patent leather. The heels are high and French shape, and they and the vamp of the shoe ar) made of patent leather. The leg part is made of the suede, and the vamp reaches up on the leg section in interesting, irregular lines. Handy Nursery Card. A nursery card is of value even in homes "where the room as such does not exist. It is a chart upon rollers like a map, to hang upon the wall, and contains simple directions quickly comprehended for treatment in case of some score of accidents and sudden ailments, such as bruises, burns, choking, fainting, stings, scalds, substances in the eyes, nose and ears, and several more emergencies of this character that may arise in even the most carefully guarded household. To Slip Baby's Hand in Sleeve. Take a lady's handkerchief by diagonal corners and bind around baby's hand and forearm, allowing the last corner to project past the little hand an inch or so. So wrapped, the hand easily goes through sleeves, and little fingers do not catch in the gathers. The handkerchief may be removed by pulling on the projecting corner Modern Priscilla

A groat many now settlors havo already arrived, and tho reports from Canadian Government agents in tho Unitod States point to tho fact that in a few days there will begin tho usual emigration from various of the Central and Western sfatos. From tho Eastern states the number of farmers going to Canada will bo greater than in any past year. There has been a fairly large snowfall during, tho winter, which will greatly add to tho precipitation of last fall, which in the opinion of oldtimers was in itself sufllcient to insure a good crop during the present year. There will he very little tilled land that will be without a crop this year. The authorities, though, are pleading with the larmers to seed only such land as has had careful preparation, for rich as is the soil of Western Canada, it is no more fitted to produce good crops uncultivated than is that of any other land anywhere else. There have been accounts of failures in some portions of the agricultural districts of Western Canada, and also reports of small yields in some districts. A good deal of this is accounted for from the fact that notwithstanding the advice of men of experience, there are farmers who will persist in seeding land not properly prepared. This may be done this year, but those who cultivate on reasonable and logical methods will be certain of a paying crop. There is every reason to believe that the high prices of all kinds of grain will continue. With thousands and thousands of acres of land waiting for the husbandman to bring it forth with a crop, itis no wonder that Western Canada i continuing to prove such an inviting field for the agriculturist. Seventy million dollars is a conservative estimate of orders which came to Canada as the direct result of the war. Governments of the allies have been placing large orders in Canada and buying huge quantities of supplies for cash. The total value of exports to Europe from Canada has jumped about 15 per cent since the war started, while in certain lines the increases have been enormous. Therefore the results of the demand of the allies for war and other material is beginning to be felt in the financial life of the Dominion. There is a marked activity in many commercial lines, and conditions are fast becoming normal. Western Canada is receiving a relative benefit to the East. Advertisement. A Sense of Regret.
