If a woman cannot go about with a
well-filled purse or an elastic charge account, she might have the one-piece frocks made at home, or by the little dressmakers who are becoming scarce since the large shops throw out such a vast number of ready-to-wear clothes at small prices. She alone can be the judge of what style of suit is the best to buy, but she must beware of the overlong coat and the overlong skirt. If the skirt were narrow, the silhouette would be exactly the same as it has been for five months with the long plaited tunic over ?. narrow underskirt; but the arbiters of fashion have widened the hem and taken the width from the kipfcj and eliminated drapery and given us a straight line from the nape of our neck to the turn of our heel, broken only below the knees. The dictum that calls for a very short walking skirt is being widely followed and it is a convenient and comfortable fashion, but it can be overdone in a conspicuous way. A woman with gray hair and large hips looks at her worst in a skirt cut ofT at her shoe tops, no matter whether her ankles are weM covered with smart shoes or not. The Ihin. angular woman should be careful about the length of her

skirt, and, in fact, any woman who has her dignitj' to preserve should watch carefully every eighth of an inch that a dressmaker is taking off the hem. After the length of the skirt is decided, pay attention to the length of the coat, also to its flare. While the long coat with its circular peplum is assuredly the most lashionahle. there are many types of short skirts that are In style. There is a revival of the oldfashioned covert cloth coat with many seams at the back, cut away in the front, with a high turnover collar; it is worn with a plaid skirt of brown and yellow ot- a skirt of its own fabric. There is a Callot model made of this ribbed cloth which is having a good deal of success. The best reason against giving a hiixh price for a coat suit this winter is that a one-piece gown is the desired garment for all indoor occasions. Time was when the jacket and skirt with different blouses served for all the day hours, no matte- whether or not the occasion was social, but this winter the elaborate one-piece frock Is decidedly the choice for anv indoor

occasion that begins after twelve o'clock. The skirts of these frocks are not so short as the skirts for street wear. Some of the smartest houses advocate a skirt that just clears the floor, while of course there are others that cut the skirts off at the shoe tops. We seem to have a mania for short skirts which has probably been brought about through dancing, but I noticed with interest that certain famous houses are cutting the other kind of skirts. One can choose any color for a onepiece frock today. Dressing for the house is not governed by any of the rules that once controlled it. Frocks are worn that sometime seem more suitable for a dinner party than a luncheon, or for a dance than an afternoon game of bridge, but the tendency this winter to bring the material high on the shoulders somewhat offsets the other fashion. Black is again a favorite color, but deep blue has invaded even this field. Beet root red is a fashionable tone and saxe blue toucl-ed with black or with silver is worn. All the brilliant shades of red came in with the war, and there is no dimunition of their- popularity. The illustration shows a Worth model for evening, of black velvet, with a girdle of rhinestones and a black jet ornraent on the skirt.
To Freshen Hair Ribbons. Wash hair ribbons in warm suds of wool soap, rince in cold water and put perfectly smooth on a mirror or marb'e, satin side down. When dry they will come off like new. Handkerchiefs may also be "ironed" in this way.
Chinchilla Cloth Revived. The new fur cloths that represent caracul or pony will be used for long winter coats, and there are some new weaves in wool that resemble somewhat the old-fashioned chinchilla cloth.
Buyer Has Wide Choice of Designs in This Most Popular of the Season's Garments.
Blouses are being sold at present wore than any other article of toilet, And nothing is too thin. Every day in the week sees a change in the shape Vf the blouse, and, strange as it may teem, there are as many shapes as the days in the week. One is in the iTr.est of white veiling, with a printed design in colored roses, edged with black. This blouse is kimono shaped end falls loosely about the figure, opening at the neck with a narrow kilting of tho material that joins down the front with invisible button holes and buttons. The same plaited trimming finishes the sleeves at the wrist. Another is an organdie mi si in, the inost popular of all the materials for blouses this season. It is veiled with a small bolero in strawberry muslin braided in the same color. The c bite underbodice is finely tucked to below the shoulder, where the plain muslin Joins' the tucks with a "jour.' The collar is starched, and the bow is in soft black silk.
Satin Pansies. Satin and velvet pansies in splendid purples and yellows, four times the natural size that grows in our gardens. are used on hats. They are also used in the front of the bodice, just above the deep girdle.
by the hundred for French women to toy with, stored in great jars of translucent green jade. So now in the boudoir of the fashionable Parisian women, there is a huge Jade jar by the tide of the tea table. And this jar is almost filled with beads of every color in the world. While the hostess talks to her guests over a cup of tea. she dips her hand into the jar, fills it with beads, looks at them, and lets them slip through her fingers. It is lots of fun, say the French women who have acquired the bead habit. Sometimes a big electric light bulb is sunk in the bottom of the jar and the rays of its light shine through the myriad colors of the glass beads with a charming effect.

It broke out in a kind of pimples. They were red and sore. She was very cross and restlers. The eczema would itch and burn till she couldn't slep. It looked very badly and would peel off where the places were. Her clothes would irritate the eruption. "We gave her medicine, but it didn't do any good. We had heard about. Cuticura Soap and Ointment so vre sent for a sample and it was not very long till she was betler. I bought some more Cuticura. Soap and Ointment which cured her completely." (Signed) H. E.
