Is The Date For the Primary

Election

A nromisins vounc merchant re

cently presented his better hall

with a handsome piano lamp as a

birthday gift. Iie ras much flattered when she" told him to give it

his name until he asked lier rea

sons for so peculiar a proceeding.

"Well, said she, "you Know,

dear, it has a good deal of brass

about it, it is handsome to look at,

requires a good deal of attention, is remarkably brilliant, is sometimes unsteady, on its less, liable to ex

The New Committee ill Be Or

ganized March 15.

The Dubois county democratic

central committee met here Sat

urday morning and almost unanimously decided to hold a democratic primary nominating elec

tion. The time nxed on is the

first registration day under the

new registration law will be May

5. There had been a proposition

to do away with the primary and

hold a delegate convention as

there is a probability that there will bo but" few, if any oontests for the vaious offices, but practi

cally every delegate favored a

primary, and one will beheld.

Any one desiring to be a candi

date must anriounce hu mtention

on or before the first day of

March, in at least one democrat

ic paper of this county.

The various pecincts will elect new precinct committeemen on March 15- On March 16 the

county organizationill be per

fected. Corrupt Hot.

The last Democratic "asel"

legislature passed a corrupt act,

m regard to elections and now the noliticians are tryincr to n

struct (?) After next elecJon

the lawyers will all get busy a'nd by and by the supreme court will set the entire act aside. However the lawyers will ha e made their stake out of the play. Read section 5 and see if a canditate can't do as he pleases. It is all rot, Chris. H. Rudolph, a rominent farmer of near Portersvilje, attempted to commit suicide Hat an early hour yesterday morning by cutting his throat with a razor. Dr. Steinkamp of Haysville dressed the wound, which may prove serious, but not necessarily fatal. Mr. Rudolph is G4 years of age and has been in poor health for some time. He was county treasurer of Dubois couuty atone time and is well known all over the county. Indications are that Jasper will enjoy another building boom this year; there allready several business buildings being figured

on and some residences, and the prospects are for quite a number of the latter: amonc: the prospec

tive businpss buildings are those

of Albert Urich. Jos, Gutzweiler

and George Haberly on the pub

lic square and Huther and btemkamp on the corner of Fifth and Main.
