Among the indictments
turned by the grand jury Monday was one charging Henry Luerssen special officer of the Board of Childrens Guardians of Vanderburg county at Evansville with rape. His victim being Mrs. Lillian Miller, wife of John Mil
ler of near Ferdinand
According to the story told by
friends of Mr. and Mrs. Miller,
air. Luerssen came to their home
on June 16th, bringing with him from the Home the 14 year old sister of Mrs Miller, whom he
was to place in her home. After dinner was over, and Mr. MiJ'er
had gone to his field to cut wheat, Mr. Luerssen suggested to the girl he brought, Ida Staub and the girl that was staying there, Miss Feller, that they go out to a cherry tree some distance from the house and pick some cherries. They went for the cherries and according to Mrs. Miller's storv Mr. Luerssen went for her tie
caught her round the waist ased her for some "cocchie" and when she refused he forced and pushed her into a corner of the room and there partially accomplished his purpose. She resisted him as best she could and when she threatened to call for her husband
he dared her to do so and as hej
had a pistol with him, her fear of serious trouble between him and her husband cowed her into keeping the secret until after he had left. Mr. Miller, knowing nothing of what had happened hitched up to his buggy and drove Mr. Luerssen to the train that evening. After his return home Mrs. Miller told her husband of what had happened, some trouble followed, but when Mr. Miller understood how Luerssen had taken advantage of his wife, he felt that Luerssen and not his wife
was to blame. So the grand jury took the matter up and Monday afternoon returned an indictment Monday evening. Luerssen was .arrested at the Board of Children's Guardians in Evansville Tuesday afternoon. Ho wna

Some one in Evansville put up the money to back Mr. Sonderman in going on his bond. Mr. Jake Schwenk, sheriff of this county, went to Evansville and brought the prisner here and was present at l he time he was arrested. When men go out "coochie" hunting they'd better know thair parties better than this man knew bis, if they don't want to get into serious trouble. The case will come up at the next term of this court.
