Bee of Business Men

Writer Tells How Banker Stays Home and Has Kcnsy Brought to Him. Hats off, fellows fighters in thß battle of business hats off

to the bankere. He's the kingj bee of us all, says tho bookkeeper. He's the gentleman with the cash on hands, anda.ll the world's his oyster. Other men must go out and scrape to get the coin he stays at home and has it brought in to him. He rents the room vacated by the delicatesan store last week and buys two desks, some iron grill work, a typewriter, a secondhand adding machine and three bottles of ink-assorted colors; he builds a vault out of some brick and boiler iron; then he hangs out a hammered brass and cilded sign that reads in shiny

letters "Bank," and people tearj one another's c'othing to get to him and exchange their caEh forj a neat little book covered with

imitation leather and a pad of 50 checks. With careful equanimity he takes their coin and cheerfully agrees to return it to them in installments between the hours of nine and three of any day, Suddays and all possible holidays excepted, and barring loss from fire, robbery, embezzlement, failure, panic or ordinary wear' and tear Then he loans it back

to them for interest compounding annually and deducted in advance, providing tkey can secure the signatures of 11 responsible indorsers or give a mortgage on real estate or chatties worth seven times the loan. He advertises to pay the highest rate of interest on time deposits, and when you go to him with the hoardings of years of swe ting toil he frowningly advises you that money is so plentiful tkat it is only out of the good seas f his noble hfart and his Under regard for you that he can pay you three per cent.

Once Defeated for N$rilnatloe,

Now Criticises Democrats. Somo of the motives which inspired William V. Ko.okcr, of NoblesvlH'o, to confide in the Indianapolis Star rocontly his "far" that tho Democratic party was doomed to defeat In Indiana unless It followedl his advice, aro shown In an editorial printed in tho Hamilton County Times, a Democratic newspaper pubnshed at Nobfesvillc. It shows that Mr. Rooker is merely a disappointed offlcesedker, and that If It had bcon tho' will dt tho convention,

bo would have been glad to run for offlcp on the very platform which he

now denounces. Tho Times says: "There is n6 reason why. Mr. Rooker. as a citizen, should not have his opinions and express them on any subject. 'He Is also at liberty ;s a Democrat to have opinions on party policy, and he has aperfect right to express thorn fh rough the prSA of tho State, but he docs not have the right to mislead tho people of Indiana by proclaiming that he isxme Of 'the leading Democrats of Hamilton county, and as such take Issue with hla party about a plank in the platform made by a conventions which he sought a nomination nnd which was good enough for him to go into the contest for a place on tho tlckotnvith tho platform principles already ret out. "That Mr. Hooker ia not a leading Domocrat of Hamilton county was attested In the last Democratic State convention, when ho was a candidate for supreme "Judge, and only three delegates of Hamilton county cast their votes Tor him. Ho is wholly without influence In the party in his homo county, and h'is'actlous and talk have Jong ago placed him utsidi' tho ranks of the Democratic party."

(Statement given in April 1907.)

No Further Trouble. On March 24, 1910, Mr Pfeffer said: "1 can receomend Doan's Kidney Pills just as highly tcday as I did three years ago when Üry cured me.
