voters, Pondering why.!
Democrats , Complete Congressional Nominations .by Naming Congressman Morrison in the Ninth.
Doc Robinson drinks nothing
but vhiskey, and eats nothing but crackers and cheese and dried beef, yet he is a robust man at 70, and take no exercise. Time was not for back when the boodler was called a statesman, or. at orse. a shrewd pol
itician. It is to the great a tage of this country that ht is now known by his right name. A man never realizes the superiority of woman so much as when he is sewing on a button without a thimble, pushing the needle against the wall to get it half through and pulling it through the other half by hanging on to it with the teeth.
(jjtall Correspondence.) Indianapolis, It coats $22S tt decide a caso In the Republican Supreme Court of InVllaua today. Fifteen year ago It cost only $56. Why? Thls.ls a question that Interests the lawyers who have complied figures showing this to be a-faot. It Interests, as well, the people of . Indiana who have to suppor't'the court and who have been Inclined to criticise It because of their inability to obtain justice there when opposed-by the corporations. During a periotl of four and onehalf years, from January, 1SS9. to June, 1893. tho Supremo Court decided 2.075 cares, at a"cost of $104.647.C0. The cost per case was about $56. During an equal period, ending In 1909, the Supremo Court decided 799 cases.' at a cost of $163,000. This i an averago"bf ,$22S for eaeh case. This average" is obtained Inthe following 'riiannef : In four and one-half years 799 cases were decided. Make it S00 for convenience. In nine years tho Judges would decldo twice as many, ör 1.600 cases. In one year the average would be one-ninth of 1.CÜ0, or 17S cases. Tho total appropriation for the period tvas $163.000, or an average of $40.750 annauully. Dividing $40.750 by 17S. the result is $223. Lawyers are painting to the fact that fifteen years ago the Supreme Court Judges were compelled to write their opinions In longhand and were without the help of stenographers in the purely mechanical features of their work. With modern conveniences th-9 court is costing more and doing Iosb. The terais of two of these Republican Judges, Osar H. Montgomery and John V. Hadley, are explrlusr. and.they are opposed for re-, election by Judges Charles E. Cox, of Indianapolis, and Douglas Morris, of Rushvlllo, Democrats. Congressmen All dominated. The nomination of Congressman Martin A. Mor risen, of Frank fort, for a second term in Congress by the Democrats of the Ninth District at Lebanon last Saturday completed the Democratic, congressional ticket. Nominations have been made in every other district. Congressman Morrison, in his speech of acceptance, paid especial Sittntlon to the tariff, the dollar-a-day pension' for old soldiers, the postal tavlAs bill and Republican ex-
