Hfs Great Weight. Nothing expresses bettor tho impdrtnnco of n person in his own or in tho world's oyos than to etnto it in terms of his relations with tho physical world. Oliver Womlell Holmes, it will be rocalled, remarked that tlie axis of .the earth sticks out in every man's jack yard. A bonmot of not dissimilar kind is recorded of Wash

ington Irving. Tho conversation was turned on 5 the pomposity of a certain American diplomatist, I "Ah, he is n great man," said irrvinjj, "and in his own estimation

a very grout man a man of great weight. V '-.en ho goes to the west tho east tij up!"

Not Afraid of a Ghost. In a village in England a

n-ont running; mto an inn at 9

J o'clock at night and cried out that

there was n ghost in his back yard. There were fourteen men in the inn, and not one of them dared to go homo with the man and investigate. There was a person who dared, however, and that was the landlord's daughter, a girl of four

teen. Some of the men followed her at a distance, and she went into the yard and up to the ghost, Happing its arms about, and discovered a man's white shirt flapping on the clothesline in a strong breeze. That's about the way all ghosts turn put. Exchange.

Foozle Again.

The Old Constitution. The Constitution originally carried forty-four guns. A particularly interesting history is connected with this ship. During the war with the Barbary jwwers in lSi'3 ehe was Commodore Preble's flagship in the Mediterranean and played a conspicuous part during the whole war. Lieutenant Wadsworth, who was blown up before Tripoli in tho ill fated Intrepid, was one of the otlicers of tho Constitution. In the course of the war

with England in 1812 the English papers laughed at the Constitution and spoke of her as "a bundle of pino boards sailing under a bit of striped bunting." But when under Captain Hull she captured tho English frigate Guerriere, a vessel of nearly equal force, the peoplo who had before ridiculed her culled her "one of the stauchest vessels!

afloat' A few months after this victory the Constitution, then commanded by Captain Bainbridge, compelled one of tho finest frigates in the British navy, the Java, to strike its colors.

Glass Polishing.

Glass grinding is effected by the use of emery powder of various degrees of fineness. But it has been shown that this grinding cannot lie carried beyond a certain point, however fine a powder may be used. In fact, a continuation of it undoes the work and breaks the surface up( ajmin. The most finely irround!

plate, if largely magnified, is shown to bo covered with tiny bits which' no grinding will remoe. The work, is therefore continued with rougoi carried on a pad of rosin, which I gradually smooths down the elevn-j tions between the pits. Hydro-! fluoric ucid gas corrode3 glass veryi rapidly, but a weak solution of it

melts away the roughened surface and leaves a fine polish underneath. This method is used where very fine adjustments of the surface are requires as, for instance, in lenses Zv? lcIrfcöV's and rnicroscotrcs.

PRINTING is the ambassador of trade. It is sent out to acquaint your customers with your business. It goes where you cannot be; it tells the story you would have told had you been able to go in its stead; it is the means by which you hope to attract attention to your house: to interest the public and secure patronage, if at all possible. In order to achieve these results and secure adequeat returns for the money invested, it is vitally essential that your printed literature have qualities. Ordinary, printing is forgetable prining. Distinctive printing impresses itself upon the mind and brings results. 3he Courier (Prinlevy, By Ben Ed Doane, Jasper, Indiana,
