THE LESSON EXPLAINED. Here Is one of several ovonts which occurred about that time, and exact chronological arrangement is not In all casos possible. This, however, must have shortly uroceded Herod's donth, and consequently the date can not have been far from A. D. 43 thirteen years, more or less, after our Lord's death. During those years political lioiin.lari s in Palestine had been changed, there was no longer one pmincial government for Judaea and Samaria and another for Galilee and I'eraea. Hard to Oust Randall. In fighting authority from on high, Scott Lester, owner of a farm near Noblesvlllo, on which Lnyton Randall has proved an unprofitable tenant, thus fax has lost a long stnigglo for possession. Randall Is still on tho job. Two years ago Lester began to ask Randall to move from the farm, but tho latter, meeting him with prayerful protestations, succeeded in remaining despite all of Lester's demands to go hence. To-day Randall Is camped In tho born on the contested property and refuses .to budge. Randall gives as his reason for sticking that the Lord owns tho land
nnd supplements this by claiming ho has authority from tho Almighty to look after It. With this argument he stands firm and Lester's pleas nro of no avail. Some time ago Lester, with tho aid of earthly ofllclals. went down to tho usurped fnrm and ousted tho ten children of Randall. Tho limbs of the law removed the goods and chattels belonging to Randall. Tho children since have been kept by neighbors and will be until tho contest is settled. Poor Writing Good for Farmer. Speaking about handwriting which is hard to read, an old time conduc
tor on tho Louisville & Nashville rnilroad told a story about James Guthrie. Mr. Guthrie besides being Secretary of the Treasury under James Buchanan, was also president of the Louisville & Nashville railroad and a resident of Louisville. In the early dnvs of railroading there were no printed pnsses as at present, and Mr. Guthrie would frequently write a pass for a friend on a scrap of paper. The conductors on the road would honor theKe. of course, but one fanner carried a piece of paper purporting to be n pass for a friend on n scrap of paper. The conductor honored it, but later grew suspicious, and one day tok it to the
office of President Guthrie and said:

President Guthrlo put on his glasses.
