Christmas Again.

Hail to Santa Claus! Hail to the thin Santa Clans with the fur tippet and the fat Santa Claus made up of cotton batting! Also hail to the little boy Santa Claus in the store front window and all the other Santa Clauses devised by the imaginations of artists and masters of make-up! There seems to be no limit to the variety of phases in which

the venerable and frostybenrdV1 gentlemen presents himself, but, no matter what his disguise, ho deserves to be hailed just the sjime. The Sunday school Santa Claua, who runs the ribbon counter at a department store on week days, and rents a wig and costume for this special oc- .

casion, is just as deserving as the very spiritual-lojking Santa Claus who adorns the front pages of the clored weekly papers. The rather diffident gentleman who makes up for the part in the upstairs frcnt bedroom and prances airily around the Christmas tree in the parlor, in a perfectly futile attempt to be humorous and witty, commands just as much respect as the hanta Claus who drives through the children's magazines. At least he manages to make his hippopotamus-like capers draw screams of laughter from the children. For good Saint Nicholas is the children's especial patron saint, and whatever is done on Chris'tmas in this circumspect and very cynic il age is done for them. The grown people have lost the flavor of the day. They observe the price tags on things and see the other side of the celebration. They are wickedly skeptical, and fail to understand that the portly, whiskered man with the heavily burdened sleigh and the zoologically impossible reindeers in a real entity who actually does make a trip around Christendom every 25th of December and crawls down chimneys. They vant to know how ho can get into a flat where the only heating apparatus is a steam radiator, utterly unaware that Santa Claus is perfectly able to come up from the furnace and slip through the air-hole, if he desires. Away with such blind pessimism! Hail to Santa Claus in every one of his manifold disguises!
