David M. Parry, of Indianapolis, former president of the National Association of .Manufacturers, in a letter to John Kern, declares that he is opposed to any sort of intimidation of employes by their employers and says that no placards to influence votes shall be hung up In the plant of the Parry Manufacturing company. Mr. Parry also says that he favors genuine tariff revision. Finally he asserts with much positiveness that although he Is a Republican, he believes the affairs of the country would be as safely manaped under Bryan as under Taft. From all of this it is apparent that Mr. Parry is not In sympathy with his uccesior In office, the silly and hysterical VanCIeava.
THE USUAL MR. -HARRIS.
Public Speaking. Hon, M. A Sweeney will address the citizens of Ferdinand on Monday night. Sept 1 Ith at 7:30 o'clock a. m. Senator Sweeney is rightly called the silver tongued orator of Southern Indiana as he can command a
larger audience than any other
i public speakor in the state. His 'speeches are logic and spiced .with that humor that appeals to young" and old. The citizens of Ferdinand will i no doubt turn out and we can asjsure them they will never regret the distance traveled to hear our 'Senator Sweeney.
! Senator K M Milburn will ad- ! dress the citizens of St. Anthony
(next Saturday night Sent 1-, upon the issues of the day from
mi
a democratic standpoint. xne
Senator needs no introduction to
our readers at St Anthony as
he is well and favorably known.
It is useless to say don t fail to
come and hear him. STILL RUNNING AWAY. A dispatch from Chicago to the in dinuapolia .ws of Sept. 1. says:
A man who to high in the councils
of the Republican party said today:
"If we had to fight out the campaign
on the issues Bryan has raised tariff
reform, publicity of campaign contributions, regulation of the trusts, guar
anty of ban deposits, etc. we would. I believe, stand to lose. But we intend to put those issues in the background by making Bryan himself the real issue We thint we can convince the people that the election of Mr. Bryan would prolong the present financial situation. We shall make our apptal to every man. whether he be at the head of a corporation or be working for a corporation, that if he wants o vee prosperity return he must rote the Republican ticket." Well, the Republicans may as well understand that they will have a mighty bard time putting "those issues in the background." All of them are going to stay in the foreground, where they will be seen and telt. But Democrats do not object to Republicans making Aryan mi additional issue if they feel like it. The Democratic par ty can win on Bryan alone, and do It hands down. But when the Republicans say that "the election of Mr. Bryin would rroloitR the r&ent financial situation" the country wüi ask who caused the "present financial situation." And when they go to talking about wanting "to see prosperity return" they will have to explain who it was that caused prosperity to so.
