It is a truism of Fociology that a community always has as many criminals and paupers as it wishes An old citizen of Jasper was in town the early part of the week, Monday. He is the victim of the Keeley whisky cure, three times. He came here with a new suit of clothes on, and with the idea of doing some business Within the shadow of the Court house on the public square there are six saloons, whose proprietors are members of the Liquor League and who profess to desire a "decent" saloon. Any one who takes the Keeley is a self-confessed habitual drunkard. The taking of the Keeley is an admittance of the fact. The taking of it is an expression of a desire to discontinue habit. Christ, on the mountain taught us to pray: "Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil." lret of these six honorable, honest, upright and straightforward dispensers of hooze; one was not visited, one refused to sell, and the other four saw a dollar in sight, and for a consideration permitted the old man to get beastly drunk, so drunk that he could hardly walk and got his clothes tore, made an exhibition of himself, and became very sick, aud finally went home to his wife. He has long since squandered his own patri
mony and a large amount of his
wife's.
The laws of Indiana prescribe certain penalties for the man who
becomes drunk- It also has some wcrds to say in regard to the man who sells to a
drunken man
These saloon men knew that
this old man had been dosed with
the Keeley, and a part of them 4iad been served at one time with
notices not to sell. Yet through
their drunken greed for an extra
dime, they join the ranks of pro
fessional lawbreakers, yet it was
no new experience, for they have belonged to that class for many
a day.
We are informed that there will be at least four damage suits filed 'n the next few wTeeks. And
thp old man is going to try the
L wight Keeley cure once more
Per h ans the Grand Jury within
the next twelve months will also
investigate.

burden of the boredom of the
world is infinitely increased by the existence of royalty. It is in its very essence dull and pom
pous; it cannot be otherwise without losing caste The rude
practical jokes and rough horsep'ay in which certain living princes have taken delight are
its reaction and revolt against the tedium of their lives. To
put a donkey in your friend's bed mav not be an intellectual form
of wit, but the dreary platitudes:
of royal existence made the jowe
welcome to one who is termed "the first gentleman" of his
country.
