Next Tuesday Map. 17tli Will be primary election day and every Democrat should turn out and vote In the Prosecutor race, Mr. Harry W. Carpenter, of Otwell, is undoubtedly the man for the place. He is a good awyer, a liberal-minded man and will make the district an excellent officer. In the representative race, Dr. Peter L. Coble will win, though, personally we would prefer to see Alden Heuring, of Winslow. The people of Dubois and Pike counties cannot afford to eleit a man to the legislature who is a repudiator of his honest debts and whose past official career has been of a very 4 'shady " kind. We have in our possession a dishonored draft and which is on exhibition wherein he repudiates an honest debt The draft is now old enough to vote and is signed J. D. Barker. Peter L Coble with all of his faults is worth 10,000 Jee Barker's In the Judge's race a large majority of the people will vote for Judge Ely for re-election on the simple ground that he is the most intelligent and competent man for the position. It appears that th Treasurer of Pike county has established a reputation for certifying to contradictory statements. He certifies that on the 26th day of Feb. '08 that Mr. Kly owes no taxes whatever, and on March 7. certifies to Vr. Taylor for Mr. Bretz that Mr. Ely owed delin

quent taxes (He must have lied one time or the ether.) Then

March 11, he holds up his hand

and swears that the statement to Mr. Taylor is false and misleading, etc., Judge Ely says

that the statement to A. H. Tay

lor is an "infamous falsehood"

and we prefer to believe Mr, Ely's statement.

In the Trustees' race in Bain-

bridge township, now that the salary has been raised by the last legislature, we believe that

the people should select a carefu . Y

conservative ana experienced

man for the place and the fact

that he once before held office in

his -lire does not mane any

difference. Vote for Judge Ely the best man for the place. The School Board. Held a meeting Tuesday night to consider the appointment of teachers for the High School for next year, but no definite action was taken. The pupils and several citizens of town have got up a petition asking that the Board retain Prof. W. Wellman. They cannot make a better selection. During the time that Prof. Wellman has had charge of the High School he has lifted it out of the slough of despair and placed it on its present high plane. The Board will make a serious mistake in considering any other application for Superinterintendent. Let well enough alone, and Prof. Wellman has done well.

already answered the question himself by saying the amount paid oift was auoited by otner

mdtres and not by Judge Ely.

If Bretz knows any law at ail,!

he knows Judge Kiy has nothing

at at all to do with changf-s of venue taken out of, or sent into

his circuit He does not say

that one dollar of such cost was

wrongful, but whines because the

balance ot cost is again tne

Circuit, and against Dubois us

between Dubois and Pike Coun

ties.

At the July term of Pike Cir

cuit Court, three cases were

ta-en on change of venue from

Pike to Dubois, and at the October term, of Dubois Circuit

Court fourteen cases were taken

on charge of venue from Dubois

o the Pike Circuit Court, just

eleven more cases than were

taken from Pike to Dubois

When the cost of change of

venues is audited between these two counties, for these two terms the balance will again be against

Dubois County All that is ne-

cessary to show tnat tne cnarges

made by Bretz against Judge Ely are false and that Bretz

knows it, is to state the facts

They refute Bretz every time. He can't fool the people, let him

ry ever so hard.

So Johnny comes up

And Johnny comes down,

And Johnny comes twisting

ihe truth all around.
