Hon I i n el Sweeney lows the First Bugle in tiie Judicial Race of 1908 A Lage String of Fine Thoroughbred Osse? Are Entered and it will b i Lively From The Jump. On Saturday. April lo, h 7 the County Central Committee was called together by Chairman Mike Sweeney. Eight members absent. v;z Columbia 2. Harbison 2. Ma ion and Jefferson 1 A 2. Jackson 2. Patoka 3, and Cass 2. Hon. W. E. Cox addressed the Committee on the primary law. I lerk Huther introduced the following lesolution: Resolved: That it is the sense of this committee, that Dubois County -hall not present a candidate for Joint Representative between this and Pike county to be voted for at the general election in iiJ8. and that said office is conceded to Pik. Co.. which passed Rats! It was stolen once, why not again ? That resolution reminds us ..f the thief -aught with the .boodle and who desires to return it to avoid prosecution. Preeinct committeeman Hon. John Peter Huther then introduced the following resolution by request: " hereas the Legislature having passed a primary election law. now therefore in the interest of harmony and with a view of giving all democrats a fair ami square deal in the selection of their candidates the comittee extends to the Democratic Central Comraitte of Pike Co. an invitation to meet this committee in joint sess'on at Winslo.v Ind., at a date not later than July 1st. 19.:7 for the purpose of formulating such rules and regulations as are necessary to give a fair and just selection of the various candidates fo- Judic'al and Representative purposes between Dub is and Pike Counties. This was discussed by earn W, A. Traylor, Leroy Cave. J. L. Brett. J E McFall. J P Huther W.E. Cox. R ML rStem, et al. and adopted Senator Mi;b irn move! "That the Republicans of the county, tie invited to hold a primary election as i?ud down by the aw" which carried. Moved that n i dato for next primary be fixed this time bul to defer this action until after the meeting with Pike Coin the Judicial race the old reliable war bOM "Gene" will be a -tarter and the nag that lordhim down the stretch will have to be going some. "Little Dick" is also j?oing to be at the post when the bugle blows and as he has never made a practice of letting the grass grow under his feet those who don't want a rear view of Dfcfc as he goes past the home pate had better take passage in a cyclone. We understand that the old time favorite- "John Lawrence" the 'erstwhile rural Statesman will also be at the po ;t ready to do battle for the priz ?. John L. used to be a spinter of remarkable ability but has been ret ind for some years, and whether he can recover his old time form remains to be seen. The dark horse "Leo'' from across the creek it is supposed will be doing something while the rest of the bunch are stre ching their necks for the home wire Leo has been an excellent Jumj-

urned a verdict of not guilty

The case um-; submitted to the jury at 1:30 P M. Tuesday and they deliberated unti 9 P. returning the above verdict The verdict was a great surprise as the state na 1 made out a fair catena I a couvL-'ion WM expected. Knofel Line left for his home Wednesday morning. A Washington item say-;: "Vice president Fairbanks is entertaining much more liberally

It can be said of Mr Beveridge that he has opinions about things Most of these opinions, it is true, are wrong, but as noone except himself takes them seriously they are harmless. For his courage, at least, he may be commended. But the Hon ''hartes Warren does not s.iow either convictions or courage And besides, he is singularly lacking in grati ude H.s failure to come promptly to the defence of his friend Harriman in his unequal contest with the president of the United States is proof of this. Perhaps by forcing a tight for the delegation from this state Beveridge as one of the acknowledged friends of Roosevelt, might drive his tall rival into avowing his teeret alliance with the ").o rO.noo conspirators. The scheme is worth trying. Indeed, if Beveridge believes
