W Polk of Iron county, the former under sentence of death, have issued an appeal to citizens and announce theli intention of personally appealing tc Gov. Folk, and also set forth that they are writing a book. The appeal is mainly for their moth er. Mrs Mary Spaujjh, under sentence of ten years for complicity in the crime Wm. Spangh, in the letter, assert! that he had committed no crime foi which he should hang. He declarei that Sheriff Polk came aftr him without a warrant of law, attacked him, revi Iver in hand, and fired on him tw .c-e before he replied to the shooting. The brothers are preparing a book in which they will tell of the attack upon them in the Jail at Ironton. Goebel On January 2 last the court rendered a decision adverse to Howard, and th effect of the mandate, according to the rules of the court, would be to makf operative February 2 the sentence ot the trial court, which has been afflrme 1 by the Kentucky court of appeals. The motion for the stay was presented by J. W Blackburn, Jr., who explained that Howard's counsel wished to put a motion for a rehearing.
