Democrstlc Ceatrsl Commiitee Meeting. All members of the Democratic Central Committee of Dubois

county, Ind., are hereby notified to

meet at the Court house in Jasper,

Ind., on

MONDAY, SEPT. 1st, 1902, at 10 o'clock, A. M., for the purpose

of making arrangements to nomi

nate Township tickets and District

members of the County Council, and for the transaction of such oth

er business as may properly come

before the meeting. Democratic candidates and working Democrats are invited to attend. Gko. R. Wilson, Chairman. John E. McFai.l, Secretary. Tie Viocenoei, Petersborf and Jasper Railroad. To the Citizens of Madison and Baihbbidoe townships, Dubois County: We, the promoters of the Southern Indiana Traction Company, wish to be fairly and fully understood by the voters and citizens of said townships before they vote on the subsidies on the 6th of September next. A few citizens of the town of Jasper, who are common enemies of all public enterprise and progress, are putting in their time telling the citizens of these townships that this company is seeking to get the tax voted, and then by some sort ot fake arrangement, run a car over the road, collect the tax, withdraw from the enterprise, and thus defraud the people out of their tax

We wish to brand such statement-

as untruths and unworthy of belie

by such intelligent citizens as are

found in these townships.

Un the part oi tbe promoters o

this enterprise, this is a good fait!

transaction, and an honest dea

with the people, in which they wil

et value received for every dollar

they vote for the enterprise.

In the first place the promoter?

are home people, men who the vo

ters of these townships have done

business with and known for years

John O. Davis and Leslie Lamb art

cashier and assistant cashier of the

First National Bank, of Petersburg

Sol. Frank is a merchant of Peters

burg and son of the president of the

First National Bank of that place

H. R. Snvder is in the hardware

business in Petersburg and is i man of fine business standing. J

W. Wilson, attorney, has resided

and practiced his profession in th

town of Petersburg for twenty year?

and is known to all the people ot

both counties. Fred. Chappel is

an attorney of Petersburg, born and

raised in that county, and belongs to one of its oldest families. Rob ert M. Gray is a merchant of Ot well and Trustee of Jefferson township, was born and raised in Pike county, and the fsmily is one of the best known in that county. E. F. Cox ia a civil engineer of large ex peri nee and wide acquaintance, and itnow employed in the construction of the rock roads of Pike county. 8. N. Chambers, formerly of Vincennes, Indiana, but now one of the

prominent attorneys of Indianapolis, is the man, who without solid tattoo ou as part was failed to the aAof of United States District Attorney for Indiana, by President Harrison. Herman Eckert and Boinar Traylor, oi Jasper, are well known to the people of kV-th townships. Sow t'onsid'-r tlu-su men, where situate, their standing, ROd bttetnews relations, and then tisk yo irselves, if you think they will dehh erntely go into a scheme to defraud the people of Mad i.-on and BUv bridge townships iu Dubois county, Jefferson and Washington townships in Pike county , and the town -hips iu Knox county? Do you believe that they would do Mn h a thing as that? The character of these men will refute any slanderjus statement-' that can 1m made. The above men have maintained reputations for honesty and fair dealing for half a cmituty, and expect to still maintain that standing. We ask you to consider who the promoters of this enterprise are, that the enterprise is in their hands, and that they are managing it in all its details, and that nothing therein is, or will be done except they direct

and order it.

Now as to what these promoters are offering the people of these townships, They propose to o instruct an electric railroad from the city of Yincennes, Knox county,

through the towns of Monroe City,

Petersburg, Algiers, Otwell, Ireland, to the town of Jasper, in Dubois county. The road will be OP

erated by electricity under the most

modern methods, the track will he

standard guage, the rails will be

standard T-rails, the road will lie

equipped with modern passen gef

cars, such as are used by electric roads of like character, and the road will also be equipped with

freight motor cars of lufnoisnt capacity to handle all classes of

freight. Standard freight cars such as are used on all steam roads will

also be used on t hi? road. The

road will be a common carrier tie

ame as any other rail road, except the motive power h to be electricity

nstead of steam. We guarantee

that this road when built will be up

to the standard of the most modern, and to have the most modern equip

ments of every character used on the electric roads. We have now given a statement of what we propose to do, and what we offer. Will the ciiizens of these townships vote for their own int rast or will they he intluenoed by those who are always found OOpOS ed to progress? If you wish to know auything further in reference to the proposition, in any way, call

on any of the men whose names are

signed to this statement and thy

will give you the information.

Trusting we have made ourselves

clear on this matter, we are very

truly.
