Democratic Cooveotioo. The Democratic convention tilled the court mooi yestr-nlay. and the) were all enthusiastic. The convention was called -to order bv county chairman (ieo R. Wilson, and on motion Hon. V. A. fraylor Vtl chosen chairman and W. C. Hinckley secretary. Committees were appointed on selection of delegates and resolutions, and Cieo. R Wilson was chosen chairman of the county committee for the next two years. While the committees were out speeches were made by the nMOestful candidates at the primary, and also by those who were not success ful, and also by Hons E A. Ely, W. A. Tralor, Leroy Cave, (Jeo R. Wilson ami others. The committees appointed reported n long list of delegates and resolutions, and their reports were adopted, and in structions given to delegates for district officers. The result of the primary was announced and endorsed. The Courier will tind room for the proceedings next week. A-Mr. W. C. Renner came borne from Ky. to vote at the primary in Madison township, on Monday. Ä-Mr. Will Jochim and Andrew Scherer came home from Linton last Saturday to vote, and returned Thursday morning. Stone. Mr. Jos. Gutgsell informs us be has bought the tools of Mr. Yonderheid, and will do all kinds of stone work to order, with particular attention to foundations and curbings. WSrHenty Hettich, while attempting to push a wagon into his stable last week slipped and fell and broke the knee cap of his right leg, which will cause him to be laid up for several weeks. He is getting along nicely. His mother slipped and fell the week before and broke a rib.

W President Roosevelt had not the courage to turn down the navy political ring, and so decides on Schley's appeal, that nobody was in command at the battle when Schley whipped Cervera, at Santiago. If Roosevelt is right the expense of the naval academy at Annapolis ought to be cut off, and that hot-bed of schemers and outlawry abolished.

Died, On Friday morning, Feb. 2-M, Florence L. Lorey, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lorey, of paralysis and edema of lungs. Florence was one of the brightest little girls in the town, and her demise leaves an aching void in many beans. The parents have the heartfelt sympathy of the community. May they remember that Chi ist says "of such is the kingdom of Heaven." JVJasper citizens should not forget that if the town is to keep on increasing in population and prosperity some good addition to its manufacturing industries should be made a certainty by the time Spring opens. Now is the time to secure something, when factories are leaving the gas belt for more permanent fuel near good coal, and this locality has an abundance of the liest for steam purposes. If no effort is made in this direction, when the

timber, now being used up so rapidly, is exhausted, and the timber mills move away, Jasper will lag behind instead of being at the front. Organize, and by united effort secure something. From little jokes great aching grow. Folly that knows it isn't Wisdom isn't half as foolish as Wisdom that doesn't know it's Folly. Once there were two brothers, one of whom thought the other was better and more deserving than he in a book 1

Contentment is ambition's undertaker.

Women have more ways of loving than a man, but men have the roost love to love with. Lore with a woman has no rival. It is always either the biggest thing or the smallest thing in life.
