sThe governors of each tdate in the union have heen asked to serve on a national committee to bring about a change in the dateof the u re Sudani i a I ma ugu tto Gö'n . 90 fara large number have answered, all of them designating the 30th of April as their choice. Historically, Lbiri date rs more appropriate than the fourth of March, because the first president was inaugurated on" the last day of April. Meteorologically, those who know Washington weather at both seasons favor only he later d ite. aTThe latest argument against

the use of oleomargarine or other butter substitutes that has been presented to the House Agricultural Committee, is that it is fatal to matrimony in the agricultural districts of the country, where the women out number the men. The use of artificial foodstuffs is said to work havoc with the arts of house keeping, and butter making is said to be already one of the lost arts on account of the usurpation of oleomargarine. The argument is novel even if it is not conclusive. ley Senator Teller; of Colorado, offered a resolution in the Senate instructing the President to intercede with Great Britain in behalf of the Boer leader, Commander Scheepen, sentenced to be shot. It is unfortunately true that the sentence of death was executed a week before the resolution was introduced. He was captured as a prisoner while in a hospital on account of wounds. His execution is another example of British Barbarity, Brutality and lack of civilization, and yet some of our people point to her as worthy of an alliance. Dubois Circuit Court Adjourned Saturday morning last for want of something to do besides the Dougan vs. Nickey case, the attorneys in which wanted a respite over Sunday, so they could go home. Promptly Monday Judge Ely called for the business before him, and the "Nickey case," as it is called, was taken up, and held before the jury till Tuesday eve ning, thus having occupied about a week of court. The docket, by the continuance of cases upon affidavit , is nearly completed, and yesterday was rather an idle day in court. The following is the business transacted since the CoUBIEl'f last re port: All criminal causes that came up were either continued or nollied. Civil Actions.
