MOTHS.
As a moth, with in m a (Mp r, Flies about a flaming taper, Now receding, now returning, Fascinated with with its burning, Never once of danger dreaming, In a thing so brightly beaming; Thoughtless, reckless, wildly whizzing, Till a s-udden, singed and fizzing, Falls he; sullied and unsightly, While, unmoved, the candle, nightly, Burns, for other moths, as brightly. So, alas! alluring Lizzie, Reeling round thee, deaf and dizzy Deaf to each demand of duty, Dizzy with thy dazzling beauty Blind, bewildered, unsuspecting, In thy smile no ill detecting; Have I bowed to thy enthralling, Till a sudden, ilatly sprawling, Smarting, wrathful, and reviling Still, I see thee, sweetly smiling Other bipeds still beguiling. Town Topics.
PROPHETIC INTUITION. Ah, Bebe, with the laughing eyes, And dancing dimples two, My senses reel, and reasons tlies, Whene'er I gaze at you. I cannot eat, nor think, nor sleepIn fact I'm all distrait, While hot and cold my pu Ises leap, In a most curious way. And books no longer hold that spell, That compassed dreams of glory, And, for my life, I can't compel A sonnet, song, or story. If this be love, then I am lost For suitors you've a dozen, And all your wealth but makes a frost Round your poor poet cousin. The Minstrel.

Mrs. Sanf iter's Definition of "Tact." Tact means touch. Sincere means transparent. One may be tactful, that is, quick to feel and respond to the feelings of others, therefore sympathetic, and at the same time he above deceit. The habit of saying pleasant thing is praiseworthy, and there is not the slighttst necessity for their being untrue. As a rule, the people one meets are good ad kind, and there is much oppor- J tunitity for being nice to them, i Look for the best in friends, and
Ottltiftta the accomplishment of praising it. She who says disagreeable things needlessly, even if they are true, is a social guerilla. The Ladies' Home Journal for January.

To Cure a Child of Croup. Wring tlannel cloths out of ho water and apply them to the throat, changing them frequently. Make a tent over the crib by means of sheets over a screen or umbrella ; then place a small teakettle over an alcohol lamp near and let the child inhale tqe moist vapor which may be conducted inside the tent, care being taken that the child does not come close enough to the hot steam to get burnt. If the attack is severe you may give ten drops of gyrup of ipecac every fifteen minutes until vomiting results. It would be best to keep the patient indoors for a day or two after the attack. Emelyn Lincoln, M. D., in the January Ladies' Home Journal.

At the recent annual meeting of the British Medical association In London Dr. Alexander Scott of Glasgow made the alarming assertion that most rollway accidents were due to neurosis of railway men, caused by the nerve tension of their duties. To prove this he cited many cases which had come under his own observation. A tuan who had been promoted from fireman to engineer soon complained of dyspepsia. The usual remedies foiled, and he sent the man to a consulting physician. The latter also failed to cure the man. Then the engineer went through a whole course of quack medicine without any success. It was only after a big smash up on the railway, as a result of which the man was dismissed, tlint he finally got well. He hod simply been suffering from nervous tension. Another man who had !een working on a farm became a railway servant and nfterwnnl a signalman. The nervous tension was so great that It brought on headache, weariness and Insomnia. He ultimately recovered and Is now an excellent workman, but not a slgnnlmnn. Another case cited was that of a signalman who was found on the floor In convulsions. When he was able to speak, he said he never entered the signal box without feeling that he was on the brink of a precipice and that some day n disaster would occur. Another man who was put In th? signal box after doing generol railway work developed nn acute mnnla In the form of nn nffeotion of tht nervous cells. lr. Scott referred to the MetJgh accident In tills .iim. the engineer deduced thiit he did not kamt how be hail run past tin- dnnuer wlKtinl.
